You are completely correct. I am not disagreeing with you at all. I believe that we are saying the same thing. The only distinction is that there are two grades of the stuff.
#2 is what is typically used in both home heating and in diesel engines.
#1 is the same thing but with an anti-gelling agent added for extremely cold conditions. #1 is also used in both home heating and in diesel engines.
When I lived in VT, the fuel co. delivered #1 for my heater because I had an outside tank and it was rather cold in the Green Mtns. It makes sense that Junkman has #2 delivered for his heater as his tank is not exposed.
Likewise in VT, for my diesel VW Rabbit pickup, the local gas station sold #2 as diesel fuel for most of the year, but switched over to #1 during the coldest 10 or so weeks of winter. Where I live now, and even up in the Sierra Nevada, I have only seen #2 sold as diesel fuel.
