Minor progress today

Didn't get a lot of playtime today. Was able to cut out and tack in the filler pieces over the top of the cowl/hood area. The large gap will be filled with a seal/weatherstrip thing. I've got the idea for that in my head, need to try it for real now...

Also fabricated the LH panel to box in around the foot controls. Was able to make it with 1 piece. The main bend was made on the homemade bender. The bends for the attaching flanges were made in a vice with my "Armstrong" bender. Turned out really good, should look great painted.

Closing in on the end of fabrication... A few more odds and ends to work on, then I can tear it down and remove the cab from the tractor. Once off, I can do some finish welding of some of these smaller filler panels and such, smooth out rough welds and do some minor body work in places. Then some sandblasting to remove the rust, prime, and paint. Then I'll be all set to beat the snot out of the paint while reinstalling it...

Starting to look like a real cab!

We're in the process of trying to sell our place. The plan is to build on some ground we've recently purchased. Problem is, I might have to go up to a year without a shop!

Is there any chance of constructing your outbuilding shop on your new property first? That way you'll have a shop while you build the house, a place to store your possessions, and a place to keep valuable construction materials (e.g. copper pipe and wire) out of sight from the bad guys. And you won't have to do the mobile home gig while you build if you have other living arrangements. Unloading a mobile home seems to be a big pain from what I've heard.

This is our plan for our property; but we won't throw the current house on the market until after the outbuilding is constructed, which hopefully will be next year.

The cab is looking great and I can hardly wait to see how you finish off the awkward spots around the cowl, foot controls and other nooks and crannies. Also, I'm looking forward to seeing the finished producr.

Looks Great!! Working on something like this for our 1523, only less complex, since old man winter is here, not much time to do one like yours :). When we do it, will post pics.

Paint begins...sorta

Removed the cab from the tractor tonight. Timed it, took me around 45 minutes total. I was able to get all but the front frame by myself, had to wait for an extra pair of hands to lift the front section up over the seat. Wouldn't want to do it very often, but once a year should be ok.

By the time I had it all tore down, there wasn't much time left for any more progress. I was able to clean the rust off of the foot control filler panels and the window flange that was added to the RH fender bar. Also got primer on those 3 pieces as well.

The goal is to get the cross bars, door, and window frame in primer tomorrow night if at all possible. Would like to shoot paint on everything this weekend depending on the weather.

Here are some pics along the dissassembly process...

Update

Most of the cab has now been painted. Still need to paint the door and the filler panel for below the rear window. Have Bondo applied to the door frame, just need to sand, prime, and paint it now.

This evening, I cut and installed the first piece of plexiglass. I did the rear window since it was a separate frame, easier to deal with for the first one. That rubber gasket is a bit of a pain to install, but really turns out well, glad I sprung for it. Stuck the weatherstripping on too, makes a nice seal against the frame. Didn't get any good pics taken during daylight, had to run out and get a couple in the dark tonight.

The cab's looking pretty good now that it's all painted black. Should have some time to work on it again tomorrow night, should try to get the door primed and maybe painted for sure, maybe install another window too. Maybe the windshield, another fairly square one, easier cutting that way...

Great job on the cab!!!

You've probably mentioned it in previous posts, so I appologize for asking again......but where did you get the gasket material from?? What is it called??
What type and thickness of plexiglass are you using??

I'm going to start making a cab for my tractor, so I've been watching the progress on your's. You'll really have a nice time plowing snow this winter!!!
