Dewave,
Yes, I suppose the head protector will raise the center of gravity a little, but I doubt it will be too much. Still that is an extra 60 or 70 lbs. I plan on being very careful. I think the steepest slope section is about 20 degrees, but there are always soft spots and holes that can change the equation.
I don't think those magnets will work with your wife in the normal way. I have found if you stick one IN the mouth, it has about the same effect. My wife prooved that to me. I couldn't talk for a week... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
I got these magnet bases from Grizzly Tools. Here is a link:
Magnetic Base from Grizzly
Bob,
These have to be one of the best buys of the year. Cost $7.95 each. I use them for holding things(guides/featherboards) to my table saw table, and also for holding tubing and things in place on my welding table.
They are not electric and have no batteries. I have not taken one apart, but I am pretty sure that the lever on the outside moves a piece of material that effectively provides an alternate path for the magnetic flux, so that in one position the flux stays within the housing, and there is little or no magnetism felt outside. So the magnet does not stick.
These are pretty neat and well worth the money, and I don't know how they can make them anywhere, and ship them here and sell them for this price. I like them so much and see so many possible uses that I just ordered ten more.
The part with the knob can be unthreaded, and replaced with a metric bolt from Home Depot or elsewhere. I think it is an 8mm bolt, and it is nothing special. I saw the same metric bolts at TSC for 39 cents each.
It might not hurt to do a little weather proofing if these things were to be left out in the elements. I think I may lightly paint the bare metal and look behind that plastic behind the on/off lever to see if some silicone sealent might be needed there.
Just a satisfied customer, as they say... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
