I think its not worth the time and money but thats just me. Its a work tractor not a faberge egg.. although looks like it sits in a garage alot.

Hummm...I think someone just called my tractor clean and unused, and implied that I'm lazy with a head not worth protecting! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Did learn what a Fagerge eggs is though... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bill

In that case I think you need to improve on your color coordinating. The Orange tractor does not match the Orange on the guard. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Are you making the same the Head Guard for the BX? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

hi henro nice job. may i suggest that when you make your head protector you make it wide enough. if you are going to be an a slope sideways chances are you will be leaning up hill and your head may be outside the protection are. would hate to see you make something good then come up short on protection. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gifjust a thought. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I hadn't thought about using expanded metal for a hood protector but after seeing your setup it appears that in addition to a hood/hear protector one could also add a face/body protector. I have some experience with things falling on the hood. In my case the hood is a brittle plastic that shatters into pieces like safety glass so it was not an option of whether to replace it. Anyway the point I wanted to get to is that I had a few (actually more than a few) rocks bounce off the hood and hit me and some hurt. Working around brush/trees has also resulted in a few harsh slaps in the face by errant limbs. An expanded metal screen between the other two would all but eliminate this. Of course being more careful would also work but probably not for me. I don't think the expanded metal would cause much problem with your vision since it is close to your face and would be out of focus when you are looking forward of the tractor. This is sort of like raindrops on a motorcycle helmit face shield or taking a picture through a window screen. Actually, instead of expanded metal, a stiff wire mesh could be welded onto a frame and provide even less interference with forward vision.

Dirtnut,

I already had the "head protector" partly welded together when I read your message. I hope it is wide enough! At the back it is the full width of the rops. It tapers to the front, and is 24" wide 48" in front of the rops. I expect this will work OK.

I wanted to be sure it would not be in the way when moving between trees, and under tree branches. I am going to angle it down, so that low brances will be pushed up and over the ROPS.

Attached is a photo of about how it should end up being positioned on the tractor when it is permanently mounted.

Centex,

I think the regular hardware cloth would be better to see through if you were going to put it in front, in the viewing area. Most of it is galvanized though, so you need to be careful about breathing the fumes if you weld it.

Here is a second shot, showing about what protection the "head protector" will give after I got in done...

Im am sure you are already ahead of me, but don't quit until you add more to the grill guard. Limbs will go right through those big holes.

ummm.......he's not making a grill guard.
He had a problem with things rolling out of the bucket onto the hood.
That's an idea Henro......add some expanded metal to the grill guard /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Grill Guard...yes, I thought of that. Don't have too much worry there, but you never know!

Also, maybe more important, the Belly Guard! Those filters hanging on the sides down there, just waiting to be knocked off or punctured by a stiick...they really do worry me.

I am thinking that I may build a light duty belly pan next. Just wonder if this expanded metal would be a mistake down there, as compared to using something like 1/8 solid material.

This metal fabrication is new to me and great fun. One thing at a time though, I guess... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Henro keep it up and you are going to win the "Mad Max" heavy metal award for a bullet proof, armor plated Kubota. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Nice looking project though and I think using the lathe/drill press magnets shows real ingenuity.
