Horse Squeeze?

I have a question about horse manure. I put 4 PU loads on my garden 6 years ago and it ruined my PH so I assumed it had been limed. I just got a trailer load that was composted and the lady said it was right out of the horse, no treatment. I put it off to the side of my garden and checked it with a cheapo Harbor Freight $3. PH meter and it is high alkaline.
Is horse manure commonly alkaline?
I will wait and add pine needles and oak leaves to bring the manure around before I use it.

Horse apples are usually hit in nitrogen.. so they can 'burn' tender plants.. not sure about PH though..

Many horse owners sprinkly hi-cal lime in their stalls as odor control... this would deffinately kick it to alkaline.
