Re: House II, Grading

MDNY- Thanks for the compliments on the web site. I put it together using Frontpage 2002. It's better to update the web site once than send out 100's of photos to all the relatives each week.

Your house looks great. Good luck with the move. We are just starting our move now, with the bulk of it happening this Friday. The good news is that after the move, I am free to get my tractor! I guess the wife saw all the landscaping work to be done and figured it was a good idea.

RobS- The scout camp my kids went to was camp Belzer next to Ft. Harrison. We have been to camp Ransberg though. I'll keep you posted on my tractor decision and the move. Hey, you're almost close enough to come help! And you've got a truck....hmmmm......./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

I'll have to remember to mention TBN on my next update to the site.

Have a good one,

Re: House II, Grading

Hoosier,

Once I get into the house I will be on a new ISP and will have to spend sometime builiding my part of the www out there. But for now I settle for updating some at work and a family member or two. I will unfortunately be on dial up for a while until we put in the satelite internet, but that may curb my internet useage and make the wife happy.

Good luck with the new house.

Re: House II, Grading

We are moving right along and maybe we will catch up to RobS on our house too. NiMo installed the underground service, the septic is installed (waiting on inspection to backfill), Verizon dropped of their cable and since NiMo doen's like other cables in "their trench" I paid for the electrician waited til the left and ran Verizon's cable and their cable for my (3) lamp posts.

So now to the inside with the insulation done in one day, the final layer of stone is in the garage and they are pouring the garage floor on Monday.

They will begin to sheetrock the interior and within a week or so the garage doors go in, the house is locked up and hopefully we really get moving. Looks like mid to late October now.

No lawn this year, need to spread top soil, bring some in and let things settle down. They will do a final grade, but rake and seed in the spring. I will probably do weed killer and this fall to prepare the ground.

Re: House II, Siding Done

It's been a while since I've posted any pictures so here's a few. This shot shows the siding done and taken in the early morning sunlight. The gable over the porch entry we're doing ourselves. We wanted to finish it smooth and put a carving of some sort up there but time and money suggest we'll finish it with some of the leftover fishscales. This shot also shows the brick porch piers that were finished this week. I set the porch deck framing down on those today and my wife finished back-priming all the porch boards. Next weekend we'll have most of a real porch /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: House II, Kitchen

Here's an interior shot that turned out OK (at least on my computer at home). This is the kitchen sans countertops. Under all that cardboard is some of the tile we laid /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: House II, Staircase

Here's the last of today's pictures. This is the staircase heading up from the foyer. The stair guy has done an incredible job for us.

Unfortunately, our move-in date has been pushed out another week. Our builder is also building a spec house for the annual Builders Showcase and the delays on ours have resulted in the two homes being on the same schedule. Her spec house has to be done by the show and she only uses one trim carpenter so she had to pull him off ours for a week to finish the other. We've also had a delay on some trim materials for the master bath. We're not thrilled (especially as the AC has died in the rental house and the landlord is not sure if she will fix it or not /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif ), but we're hanging in there. For those out there contemplating building, be sure you can tolerate a bit of added stress in your life /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: House II, Siding Done

Looks very nice! I like the color of the wood in the stairway. I also like the white stair risers on the second flight. Is it going to stay that way?

Re: House II, Siding Done

Thanks MR! All the staircase and hardwood floors are raw red oak right now. Will be stained Minwax Cherry which is pretty dark by today's standards but more in keeping with a late 1800's theme. The stairs above the landing (with the white risers) will be carpeted.

I did get some tractor time today picking up various bits of construction debris, smoothing some of the temporary pathways and I moved the remains of the masons sand pile to fill in under the porch a bit. Can you believe this weather? September and I get a sunburn /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: House II, Siding Done

Yeah, the weather is crazy. I usually close my pool right after labor day, but I was swimming last night. The water was still in the high 80s and we don't have a heater, just a solar cover/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

So the stairs' woodwork will be more in the color of the cabinets in the other picture. You are right about keeping in the theme, sorry, I forgot /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif. Carpet on the upper stairs will probably help with noise. What is the material that is white on the risers?
