This used to be Massey and Ford country, but a lot of the blue tractors got sunburned I guess, and the Massey's just went away for a while. Now they are making a comeback, and New Holland is again getting a foothold. My neighbor bought a Massey 1528 last fall, and has run some of my implements on it. It seems to be a good tractor. An old Vietnam friend has a Boomer around 30 hp, and loves it. We have just gotten a local dealership again, and I'm hoping they do well.

Now that you mention it, I do see a lot of Ford 17x0 and 19x0. After the New Holland switch Kubota made big gains. The former Ford dealer here does New Holland and Kubota. And they'll still service my 8N that's been in the family for 60 years. My newer CUT is a Boomer. I love it but don't see too many of them.

Massey is coming on strong around here with Northwood Power. Looks like they may be in your area as well? I always enjoy a little quick window shopping when I pass their Northwood location.

It's nice to have so many options.

Yes, Nortwood Power opened a store here in Newport about three miles from my place. My neighbor couldn't take the strain of driving by there, and bought a tractor from them last fall. They also have New Holland here, and I don't know what is up with that yet, but it's nice to see the Boomers around. They have a bunch of that new repro 9N I think too, but those don't seem to be moving much. Actually they have another smaller place in Claremont too, but the new location has much more room for service, etc. which concerned me a bit when they opened in a place with very little room. From what I hear, Rick is doing well there, and is a forum member here actually.

A common misconception is that a person is only interested in or only likes what they own. We have red, gray, orange and green. Many have owned or will own something different than what they have now.

Kubota learned with the BXxx50 that brand loyalty doesn't count for too much.

I agree for the most part, I have all Deere right now but have owned other brands. For me it is simply a matter of availability within a reasonable driving distance. The Deere dealer is several hours closer than the nearest Kubota dealer.

Amen to that!

Everyone's wants and needs are a little different and every manufacturer is going to have a few gaps in their product lines. And some people are very particular about transmission style, control placement, etc. And that's OK.

When I bought my NH T2320 I also did a lot of looking at the Deere 3x20, 4x20 and Kubota B3030, Grand L. All nice tractors but I picked the one that suited me best. Love each of my tractors but that doesn't stop me from vaguely looking for tractor #5. ;)

Be careful; my fantasy #5 looks a lot like your 8540. ;)

Wish I could justify it. It takes a long time to cut 20+ acres of pasture with my 6' rotary.

Don't I know it, I have a L5030 HSTC with a LP RCR2672 that I use on the farm where I live as even though it is 331 acres only has one four acre and one three acre "field" that I mow with the rest being pond levies road ditches etc.

Our M8540 lives on another farm about four miles from here with less land, but LOTS more mowing. Last year our Case CX 80 went toes up and I took my 5030 up there to mow and it didn't take long for me to decide 6' just wasn't going to do it. That is when we bought the M8540, we sure missed that 10'6" cut.

We are still recovering from the price though.:(
