How do I send a fax from Office Depot?

I have ZERO cell service at my home location, would be lost without my 2 wire landline and DSL....And yes my 2-3 year old HP printer/scanner has RJ11 ports, would be silly to have FAX machine without landline connection...

It's funny how quickly we can become conditioned to new normals. I have to keep reminding myself that no special service contract is required to send and receive faxes.

Those are US postage stamps, so yes, for the US Mail.

I think many people no longer have land lines (plain old telephone service, pots), so having the printer that can do it doesn't help much.

my 1 year old HP office jet printer all in one also has a fax option...problem is i dont have a landline at the house. i guess if i really tried i could route it thru my cell phone, if i could figure out how to do it. but, i dont need a fax so i guess i wont ever figure it out.

Do you know who is sends the files to for them to be faxed?

If it's using WiFi, it's sending the image files somewhere on the internet, and that somewhere will then use old fashioned phone service to transmit the images to the literal fax machine on the other end - this includes computers set up to receive faxes and turn them into image files - they're still using the old fashioned fax protocols on the POTS. Meanwhile, your fax is sitting on a server somewhere subject to that intermediary's policies, which is the reason someone wasn't wanting to use an internet fax company... which is what your wifi fax machine is doing if it doesn't have a POTS line.

I honestly dont know why anyone even uses faxes any more. But its easy, you hand the counter person the paper to be sent, give them the phone number, and pay the few bucks for the service. I had to do this a few times for a bank when purchasing a property. The last time i sold a property, everything was docusigned online. I trashed my fax machine probably 10 years ago…….never used it.

Many of us still have to use faxes because you can't send personal information (like SSN or health info) over email unless you're using a secure server with authentication required from the recipient.

I use a simpler and cheaper method for sending fax. Our county library offers fax service "free". Yes I do help fund the county library thru taxes so it's not entirely free...... Back up is local independent copy shop.

I've just been informed\reminded ones personal bank generally offer both free fax and notary services

Every so often I do need to get a fax. I have a dedicated virtual phone number, and my VOIP provider has a (free) service which accepts faxes to that number, then converts them to e-mail and sends them to me.

Doctors think they are sending to a fax (well, that IS my fax number, so they're HIPAA compliant) but it arrives here as an e-mail. Great time saver for routine stuff like blood work orders and appointment changes. I can print it out (if I want to) on plain paper, no more fax paper rolls, thank you.

Sometimes I'll receive a fax from Docu-sign which is alleged to be a secure online fax service.

I haven't needed to send (originate) a fax for so long I can't remember . . .

I do some overseas business and some of my guys there still use fax machines. Fax isn't a dead technology, but it is a mere shadow of its' former self.
