How do you store your diesel?

I add an 8-oz. bottle of FPPF Fuel Power and a dash of FPPF Killem biocide. That keeps the fuel in good shape.

I have been doing the same thing for 30 years with no problems.

I get 300 gallons and it takes a bit over a year to use it all. I use Power Service and Bio-Kleen biocide. I am getting ULSD now so the biocide is more important from what I have read.

Last year I got rid of the old 300 gallon gravity system, pretty rusty, and put in a new 300 gallon with a Gas boy.

I have always used a filter that I change each fill. With the Gas boy I have went to a 2 micron filter.

A lot of people say you can't keep diesel more than 3 months but I have not had a problem yet.

I have a 275 gal tank in my garage for my home heating oil. I bought a hand pump for about $100 and pump it into a plastic container and fill my tractor. (Don't have folding rops and can't drive the tractor into garage). I've read all the posts about diesel vs lsd vs ulsd etc but I've been using the heating oil for 8 years so far with no adverse effects. I actually think it's better for the engine injectors due to the lubricity of the sulfur. Sure does beat running to the gas station and dealing with getting the tax rebate on the fuel for the taxes.

In my area it don't matter if you get it out of the tank in the garage or if you get it from a truck stop or gas station you are still running the same thing in your tractor.

Probably not a great setup for how much I am using it but I haven't had a problem yet. I imagine that I will soon call the fuel delivery company to come and drop 100 gal or so in it.
Doubt it would be worthwhile for them do do less.

Mine will top off my 30 gallon drum when ever they are in my area but they wont make a special trip to do it if they don't have other deliveries in the area.

Why not put a longer hose on the pump and pump the diesel directly into your tractor tank and skip the plastic container???

I now have to find a reasonable source for off-road diesel. Southern States is quoting $3.80 per gallon....

I could do that but the tank is at the house end of the garage so the hose would have to be about 20 feet long. I actually use so little fuel that using the 5 gal container isn't a big deal. Not ideal but STILL a lot better than running to the gas station all the time.

Placards as the labels are called , can be picked up usually at any truck-stop . I did it for the simple reason that we live in a extreme urban fire danger area . I also disk down 8' to 10' bare earth fire breaks on the south side and west side of our property . East side has a bare earth power line road and north side is neighbors driveway . Use to be a volunteer fire fighter / EMT here , so I know a lot of the people in both the fire department and State Forestry .

My tank was a used gravity tank . Think I paid $200 for the tank and stand . Cut the legs off the stand and added the pump for another $100 . Couple of rattle cans of Rust Paint and now have 360 gallon tank at top up driveway . Only 2 problems with whole set-up is tank was a gravity feed , so now with the pump , when I call to have it filled , I need to pull the pump and screw in the fill bung . Second problem is dang pump reads in Liter's !!!! ( which actually is not a problem , just crank handle till I hear tractor fuel tank gurgle and thats close enough for the day ) .

Had it filled 3 years ago and still have a little less than half left . As mentioned above , a couple of additives yearly and new filter same time , yet to have a problem .

1*Right now I am using a plastic 5 gallon jerry can. It is inconvenient, but I know my ULSD is "fresh". Jay

1*This rig would be perfect for your 5 gallon can as it eliminates the inconvenience of cans with no change in freshness of the fuel.
Thanks to this system having 2 suction hoses instead of only one I can pump from the white drum or any other container.
