How Hard to De-Green a Kubota MX5200?

If DPF is so trouble-free, how come pre-emissions tractors cost so much?
Because a lot of buyers are of the same mindset as you, even though it’s usually unwarranted. I mean come on, anything mechanical can break, but there’s no widespread pattern of this occurring with DPF except on a few problematic models.

When I read the headline I thought he was comparing it to a John Deere.

Because a lot of people are anti emissions. A classic car cost as much as a new car. Does it ride better? Does it get better mileage? Is it faster? Does it handle better? The answer to all of those questions is no. Your world your choice.

All used equipment prices have gone through the roof because of inflation. I have a MX5200 which is a beast of a tractor. If you find one at a reasonable price that has been well cared for, I wouldn't let it having a DPF system deter me from buying it.

I checked around for used TYM's, and it's like they don't exist.

The MX5200 I came across has 1500 hours, and they're asking $17,500, including a small bush hog.

What was it used for, which transmission and does it have a loader?

I suppose you could look for a used, older, pre tier 4 emissions tractor but the selection is limited and they're getting harder to find. It is a used tractor though, and you may also wind up with someone else's problem. Future repair expenses may not be any less than those which MAY occur on emission control systems.

To me anyway, owning a new machine is worth the VERY minor inconveniences associated with most tier 4 tractors.

Generally a new tractor or car owner is going to take the biggest depreciation if they decide to sell within a few years. I agree with 2manyrocks.
I paid $32k for my 2018 with emissions and 150 hrs, 3 rear remotes, gannon, and loader. The dealer quoted 48k for the same in 2022
The MX5200 is a great little tractor. My last tractor of 14 yrs was a beast :p

It's an HST machine. No idea what it was used for, but apparently mowing was part of the mix. It has a loader. Looks like it spend a lot of time outdoors.

I haven't looked at it. Just something that popped up on the web.

There are TYM 55-horse tractors out there for around $30K.

Sounds like you got your answer from the community. What you found is a good used tractor. By Good I mean a capable model produced by one of the best, if not the best, small tractor manufacturers going back 50 yrs at a fair price. Maybe you are unfamiliar with tractors. The big name brands like JD, Kubota, MF have been at the top for a long time because their machines stood the test of time.. You have to decide what you will expect of the machine. And what you want to spend. Then what compromises you are will to make based upon what is available. If you want new, TYM is a bargain. But is a bargain always a bargain? There are a lot of ways to make something cheaper that are not always good. Neighbor bought a less quality tractor the same size as mine but with a nice cab, stereo, air conditioning, and such. So far he bent the loader and a wheel...sounds like that is where they saved some money making it.
I put my money on Kubota for their reputation of durability and resale.
