How I stumbled into a Kubota BX in the first place.

I've only been a casual visitor to the Kubota forum, but even I know that three ain't anywhere close to catching up. That's more like the John Thomas starter kit.

You're right

While living in MA we bought a place in CA. Only 1.5 acres, but while a real nice property it hadn't been cared for. I just told my wife that I couldn't handle the place without the tractor. I decided I didn't need a backhoe and to get max pto power bought a 2660, FEL, 60" MMM (at everyone's suggestion here), 42" tiler, 48" Brush Bull, box blade and have been pretty well equipped. Very very pleased with the 2660.

Then my daughter, a realtor sold a guys place and he had a BX23 with 240 hrs on it. She may have traded some commission dollars on it although she will not admit it, but I picked it up for very very short money. We have been remodeling the house and the backhoe has been invaluable and has led me to use it most of the time. I was absolutely wrong about the "not needing a backhoe".

I kinda feel like Norm on the New Yankee Workshop. Norm never changes router bits. He just changes routers. First day I had it I was digging a water line and my wife came down to ask if I could til a bit in here flower garden. " Sure honey, just let me hop off this tractor and onto the other one."

I've welded up some lifting forks and building a sub-soiler. As well have added lifting hooks and eyes to the buckets. All in all they are both pretty capable.

I have no complaints about the tractor. Could I have used a B? Sure, but 1.5 acres can put you into some tight spots even for a BX. I am surprised at how much more smoothly the 23 operates over the 2660. The 2660 gets its extra power in higher rpm' sand you can feel it

You didn't keep the B2320 very long BP ? I thought you were smitten with it .

I enjoyed that B2320, OrangeRidge. Times change. Work projects change as well as we don't get any younger. I wasn't even thinking too hard on selling that B2320 when a fella came down the drive as i was plowing snow one day. He asked me about the tractor, said he'd been looking for one as he and his wife were new property owners and she insisted they get a Kubota, and quick, to be able to function on their new retirement place. He asked if he could bring her over to see it. "Sure", I said, "Bring her over". Little did I know that when she arrived, and like many wives who held the checkbook, she was looking to buy, as in, Right Now.

We settled on a price that was essentially what I had paid for it, minus the sales tax I'd paid. The gentleman soon brought over a trailer and we loaded it up. Done. I had little regret as the bigger jobs that had necessitated that purchase were completed and things were winding down.

So, back to the dealer I went and he showed me a "used" BX2360 with 24 hours on it. Yup, 24 hours. The discount was thousands over new so we loaded it up and took it home. Done. I'd stumbled into my second BX. I've had it for about 4 years now. It's been a flawless helper.

Do I miss the larger B? Sure, in the sense that I miss my younger body, my larger ambitions and my youthful energy to do them. I'm afraid the DOB on my driver's license doesn't lie. Time catches up with us all. The BX can do anything I wish to take on at this point in life, which isn't all that much. LOL

Hi BP ,

Yes , we often can't see what the next move is when someone " springs one " on us ! I was quite happy with the BX2360 until my neighbour fronted-up with a Hustler super Z hydro zero turn four years back .
I was seduced by the speed and the BX was gone the following week ............ Then I was contacted by my old Kubota dealer about a F3690/72" special . Had a go down at their yard and just had to have one .
For lawns , there's nothing quite like this type of machine . The 1505cc four cylinder engine is magnificent .
Now yesterday , I get a contact about a deal on L4600/FEL/4 in 1 and 0% 40 month ............ I've not enough use for it to buy one by myself , but if I go 50/50 with my neighbour ( and his shed space ;-/ ) who has a lot of driveway
to repair , then it's a possibility . I've mulching , a wall to pull down and rebuild ( leaning due to poor foundations/earth-pressure ) , trees to cut down and dump the wood over my hillside etc . He might spring for it : watch this space ....

My neighbor down the street bought a BX 24 new , I thought it was a nice little toy for him . A couple years later after his wife tried to kill him ( a whole nother story) he accepted a transfer to California from Maryland . Two days before his move he asked me if I wanted to buy his diesel light tower for $800 . I jumped on it, a 6 kw diesel generator . Then he asks me if I could sell his BX 24 for him , with the rototiller he never used . I said sure , what do you need to get out of it ? ( now I never priced or even considered buying one ) He says he wants four grand out of it , I looked at it and hesitated a bit and said I will take it , it would be a fun toy . It had a whopping 115 hours and the backhoe still had paint on the teeth . It wasnt till about 3 weeks later did I do a search to see what they sold for , my jaw dropped . I have used the bx more than i ever imagined , up to close to 800 hours in 4 or 5 years
