5065e, MFWD, std valves (1 rear, 2 mid), 553 FEL with Global Carrier and Heavy Duty bucket (holes drilled in lip for replaceable cutting edge). Rear tires filled with water anti-freeze for ballast. Also quoted is Frontier 1276 disc harrow to take advantage of 1500 rebate on 2nd implement.

I will get a 6 foot cutter but am not convinced MX 6 is built as well as either Bush Hog 296 or Woods BB 720X. I think for the $$$ I am better off with either of those vs MX 6. What bothers me about MX 6 is I can't see frame. I don't know what exists between the top and bottom of the double hull construction. I do know the MX6 is heavier than the Woods BB72 (1050 lbs vs about 850?) but I want something that will cut 2-3 inches. The Woods looks appealing to a structural engineer. I have never owned a tractor but been around them. I also am a little apprehensive about India quality but can't see evidence where it is a problem. Have an option of a 2006 5325 with low hours (50) but left outside and I don't know what to pay? Anyway, with all the political jobs discussion today it kinda bothers me that a JD is made outside USA. The world went that way with NAFTA. We basically said to the world, take out manufacturing jobs? Any advice is appreciated . I am 54. I want to keep this tractor until I die. Don't know when that will be but hope God gives me time to enjoy my tractor.

Hey Rmd,
That sounds like a great setup! Boy that 5325 would make a nice tractor too, thats a tough one but of course I haven't driven either so I'm no help. haha.
Regarding the brush cutter, do NOT buy the Woods BB72! That is a light duty mower. The BB720 is supposedly a great mower and is a true medium duty mower. Do they have any other brands? I don't know much about the MX6 but I personally would stay away from it based off many comments I've read on here. I recently started looking hard at the Bush Hog 296 and the Brown 472. The Brown 472 actually seems like the best (true) medium duty mower out there, it has 7 guage steel deck vs. the 10 guage of others, weighs 1200 lbs and has a 130hp gearbox. Not sure what your looking at for price but I was quoted $2935 for a new 472, thats not from my distributor though that's from Brown, so I imagine a distributor would be less than that. Check out a couple of my threads on rotary cutters.

You can NOT go wrong with the 296 though if that is one of your choices, that is a well known cutter and has a great reputation. Also if they have Landpride or Rhino check them out as well. The LP 2672 should be comparable to the Woods BB720, Brown 472, and BH 296. My first choice is the Brown but again, I haven't actually used one.

As a note, I have a light duty cutter currently from Woods. (the BB60), I have just about torn it apart because the metal is so thin and it is such a light duty mower. All the brands have light duty, not just woods.

I just finished or am about to finish my third summer mowing with a Land Pride RCR2672 and use it hard cutting 3", occasionally bigger, though not intentionally, saplings and it is a really solid unit. I use it to go through the same stuff as our Woods DS1260. It works well on grass or brush.
