... This whole coronavirus thing is so unknown that nobody really understands it or where it is going. All we have so far is a small increase in understanding of its effects so any new information is interesting - but credibility of any new information is far from proven.

The best thing I think we have going for us is still the fact that its largely a non lethal virus. Thank the Lord its not the “ Andromeda Strain “.
IMO, herd immunity for the healthy, as awful as it sounds along with quarantine for the elderly and unhealthy and closing off hot spots is the only way out. Drink from the bitter cup and get it over with. See Sweden.
If we spend months and years protecting ourselves from it, we will be trying to get by with 15-20 million people collecting unemployment for longer than the system can handle. We will lose a lot of additional people from depression, abuse, suicide and poverty. Bankruptcies galore, increased crime and all the invasion of privacy from the gubmit with tracking and tracing and tests and wristbands.
“ Life free or die “ men, that’s what Im thinking.
Im no rocket surgeon for sure, but the longer this goes on, the worse it seems to be making our situation?

OLD?
What you talkin bout Willis???
But Thanks. I have learned a lot over the years. Seems like we have become a nation of soft little cupcakes. We need to be tough now and pull ourselves out of this nosedive

Farmers are the smartest people in the world. We can fix or survive just about anything.

Apparently Andrew Cuomo's antibody study postulates that 2.7 million NY residents have likely had Covid-19. Or about 13.9% of the entire NY population. So considering that the total NY confirmed cases is about 270,000, Then that means that this has spread in a X10 manner. An entire order of magnitude greater than at first thought. This seems to validate the Santa Clara study. More or less. This just means that we are closer to "herd immunity" than at first thought.

Is there actually any real evidence for that ?

I'm coming around to your point of view on this. We need to consider the future in more terms than "virus deaths".

I really don't want this opverhypedmediaevent to become one of THOSE moments ....

Right?? I mean we are spending trillions of borrowed money to keep people from catching a pretty survivable virus. Im not suggesting we expose anyone to it who is marginally unhealthy. Keep them isolated until the cure comes. Take the infirmed and elderly off the street, then the death rate goes way way down.
Meantime we gotta think about us ALL dying an economic death. That kills all ages and health profiles. Depressions are very real and very deadly. Just ask anyone who is still alive from the 1930s. The stories my dad told me....

Get the Corona, you can very likely survive. Take your job and all your wealth? You probably cant survive. Thats many millions of people. Look at all the people we are finding out had the virus and never felt sick!
I dont want to live the rest of my life in a mask & gloves. I don’t want to see people living inside the rest of their life, Its like chains.
Go outside and take precautions, but sooner or later drink from the bitter cup......
Live free or die.
In the meantime, follow your governors instructions

Some good news from the briefing. Apparently 3 things can kill this virus off quickly. Heat, Humidity can greatly reduce the half life of both aerosols and virus on surfaces . And the UV light from the sun can kill the virus in a minute and a half. It could be that "sheltering in place in your home" is exactly the wrong thing to do. Maybe getting out in the heat and humidity and sunlight outdoors is the right thing to do. Social distancing of course. Maybe letting the children play in the skatepark is the exactly correct thing for them to do. Maybe letting people get in their motorboats and going out on the lake to fish and play is the exactly right thing to do. Maybe letting people buy seeds and plant them in their garden is the exact right thing to do. The testing continues, but the preliminary results for heat, humidity and sunlight look very very good.
