Ya, that is why we Ontarians are paying another 4% 'carbon tax' on top of all the other taxes we are bled for.

We hit a 6 year low over the weekend 16˚ and today it was 80˚. I would say normal to the extremes.

Last year I didn't get enough snow, all winter, to plow the driveway once and it was warm all winter. This year has seen cold temps early and now we have 14" on the ground. The yearly weather has had such radical swings its hard to define/remember what is normal. I'm in NE WA state.

Last year seemed a little more normal in terms of temp....perhaps a little warmer than normal....but not alot of huge temp swings. But not alot of snow last year.

This year, far from a normal winter. Not much has been average....allthough it all "averages" out. Usually our winters average 25-30 degrees. But it hasnt been around that this year. Its either 50+, or single digits.

We had a ~5 day long cold snap first week or two of december followed by above average temps right before christmas.

Same thing this past week. 4-5 days with -2F lows and 9F highs. Just bitter. Last two days have been 50 degrees, and 60 degrees today....but man the wind.

This was supposed to be a good winter for us plowers. Foretasted above average snowfall. I havent seen it yet.

Very erratic weather here. Was 2F on Monday morning, yet today (Thursday) we will see a high of 68F.

It was interesting that our last cold snap timed up perfectly with a snow storm, giving us 10-12" followed by very cold temps for two days. Warmup started on day 3 (and some rain). More often, we see the warmup come right after the storm.

What I don't like about the extreme temp swings is that it results in very muddy conditions. I'm probably not going to be able to do much outdoor work for the next 2-3 weeks. Heck, at 68F today, I can't even really do any of the "winter" activities that I save for cold weather!

I really prefer normal weather when things are more consistent and more seasonal, with smaller swings. This dramatic flip-flop weather is hard to deal with.

Where I am in upstate NY, last winter was the warmest in recorded history. My pond never froze enough for ice-skating, and the ground never froze enough to kill the turnips. They lived thru the winter for the first time ever and came back to life this spring. May kid's ginny-pig died last winter in late February and the ground had no frost in it when I dug the hole to bury it. Last summer we had the worst drought in recorded history with hardly any rain thru June and July. Fortunatley, it picked up a little in August and some of my corn on lower ground did ok. All of it on well-drained ground was toast however. This winter is slightly cooler. The pond had just enough ice on it to skate last weekend, but the temp has been in the 50's the last few days so I suppose that is done for the season again. I have only had to plow snow twice this winter so far, and not over a foot either time.

I'm the reason for the lack of snow in my area, this summer I built a snow pusher blade for the tractor and bought a snowmobile ($400). Best money spent in my opinion lol. We had 2 snow falls of a few inches followed by warm weather and rain which melted it off. We had about 4 inches for the week of Christmas which works for me. The heating bills are much easier to take.

I have heard of quite a few folks that bought brand new snowmobiles and then never got enough snow to use them all year. Cheer up, next year (or even next week) may be a lot different and you may need that snow pusher. Winter is far from over for all of us in the Northern Hemi-sphere.

Mr. Fowler, after you define 'normal' then I will be able to tell you what my winter is like.
Northern Ontario anytime after Labour Day one can expect snow and colder temps. So far this winter we've seen -20F for a couple of days and some snow, also some rain.
Last Christmas (2015), not the one just past, we were praying for snow for Christmas. We had -20's to -30's in December.

Gary lives in Arkansas. he is above normal.
