How long can cylinder rods remain exposed to the elements before they should be coated with something?

I spray some liquid wrench pen oil on then on occasion and even make some covers from rain gutter stays on a couple of units.

I ordered a Yanmar 235C and now to build a home for it.
Thinking about using cheap metal for roof and sides.
Everything is going up and retirement pay DON'T match
the way prices are going up. Last time I purchased chipboard I paid $7.95 now its in the $40 range. It sure
would be nice if the retirement pay would jump like that
then we could afford something. I'm thinkin an 18X28 metal enclosure like a carport would work keep the weather off the tractor. For all you guys that wife says no to get a tractor: I was looking a a Yanmar SA 324
can't get a cab on these and there was a YT 235C next
to it and wife says get the one with the CAB! She says
she don't want to see me covered in dust when cutting the grass! Just a wonderful wife!!!!!!! Here in West Texas we have dust storms and sometimes have brown rain = wind whips up dust get a little rain then you have brown rain balls. Your car looks kinda spotie
when the little round balls hit!
