How long does it take to put front snowblower on a BX?

We have a BX2660 with a front blade which mounts the same as the blower (minus the PTO shaft.
At the beginning of the season, it takes ~20 minutes to change over (unbolt the 4 bolts that hold the brush guard on, install the subframe, install blade).
Removing the blade from the subframe is about a 3 minute job (2 hydrualic lines, 1 pin and one lever). I imagine that adding in the connection/disconnection of a PTO shaft would add 2-5 minutes to the task but probbaly not much more than that.

It only takes about 20 minutes. The PTO shaft is the worst part because there is no room to get your hand in to release the collar. This year I separated the shaft at the sliding joint & it seemed to go together easier that way. It's not a job I would want to do several times a year, but it's not too bad. I have found it much easier to attach the PTO shaft at the collar with the front tires about 3 or 4 inches off of the floor.

That is what it takes me to take off the 60" cutting deck, clean the deck, put on the cab, remove the joy stick from the FEL, take off the front guard, put the hydraulic lift and snowblower on. I do this my myself with the help of a cable lift. I am not in a hurry and take my time. The front PTO can be a pain to line up with the blower. The cab is 10 bolts, real easy with the cable hoist.

It takes me less than 30 mins to do it by myself.

However, if another person is brought in to help & he shows up with beer, then that 2-3 hours might be more accurate.


Hope his friend shows up to help shovel too.

I can't tell from the picture, it looks like front mount blowers are the cat's meow from that picture, UNLESS your drifts are so high and heavy that you cannot get through them - and would need a rear mount blower (and probably a bigger tractor) instead.

Depends if the quick hitch is on or not. When I pull my deck I'll put on the quick hitch. Installing the blower on that is a 10 min job at most. No big deal.

Well it might take him that long but I have installed mine a few times by myself and I don't recall it taking more than fifteen minutes to a half hour or so. It depends on how easy the front drive shaft goes together. Sometimes it's tricky to get attached due to not much room to reach in and pull the collet back.

On my b2620 it takes me 15 minutes max to drop the fel ,install the sub frame,install drive shaft, and then install blower and the front shaft.

Much easier than putting on the mower. Takes me about 15 minutes all told, and I'm old and fat.

For, me, on my BX2670, less time for the blower than the mower, but longer than either was on my Wheel Horses.......

As some mentioned, a lot might have to do with which model of tractor, which model of blower, and whether the friends brought beer or not.

Personally, the front mount snow blower is the ONLY way to go. No matter how deep or far through the drift is, you just keep going, and never have to go 10 times farther to make sure there is room for next time like you have to do with a front blade. I wait for the storm to end, don't go out in the middle of a blizzard because I'm afraid of not being able to push through. No backing up like a front loader that can't be pushed through because the snow is too deep. With age and physical limitations, I don't have to twist around in the seat, which I can't do anyway, as a rear mount snowblower requires.

Now, if you like spending 4 times as long in the cold, if you like putting 4 times the hours on your equipment, if you like being twisted around in the seat, well, you might like one of the other methods better.

Here is what I do with my BX2360:
Remove 2 pins on my LA243 FEL (about 2min) adjust the control lever to release the FEL(about10 sec). Disconnect the 4 quick connect hydraulic hoses (1min)
Back the tractor away from the FEL.
Install the subframe that the front blower/blade mount to(10min)
Put on the mid mount PTO shaft(10min)
Drive the tractor to where the blower is sitting(B2750 48"blower)
Mount the blower(5min)
The trickiest part is lining up the square drive from the blower to the drive on the subframe but all told this takes about 30 min at the most to switch from the FEL to the blower. The first time I did this it took quite a bit longer, but I have gotten better and it now takes less time.

Hi, first NO it will not take that time, let me explain,
First you have to fit the front quick hitch subframe and the pto driveline kit, this will take you 15min.
After that you will fit the blower in 5 min. As you already have the front quick hitch subframe on you can easy fit a snowblade and then back with the blower in 5 min
Im still very impressed of the front mounted snowblower, and its very fun to drive :thumbsup:

It may be different for other models of tractor, but the front mount blower for a B2650 was $6500+ and a rear was ~$3000. That's a deciding factor for me. Not sure about BX models, but I know I could do a lot with the over 50% savings in cost!
