I went all thru this thread last night and was wondering what is the average hours everyone was putting on there tractors.
Out of 91 post there were 56 that had a good time line in them.
This is what I came up with.

Out of 56 tractors the average hours pr. mo. is 14.2
The B's people use there tractors 11.26
The Bx's people use there tractors 16.95
The L's people use there tractors 14.7

I didn't do any $$$ amounts pr hr. That scared me. And not only that, I didn't want the old woman to see that.

Kind of interesting? Lee

That's very interesting Leejohn, thanks for doing all that work. The big difference between the B's and the Bx's is especially interesting when you consider that they're both essentially residential tractors and the amount of tractor work on a residence is roughly the same. Doesn't seem reasonable that the guys with the smaller places buy the bigger tractors....but maybe a lot of guys with big places are broke and can't afford anything bigger than a BX. ;) Seems like your post has taken us into the realm of tractor demographics.

Given that tach time is accumulated based on hours at rated RPM; I'm wondering if it indicates that B's are typically worked well below their rated RPM while the smaller engined BX's are run much closer to rated? I know I usually work my B7610 between 1700 and 2000RPM and often putter around at 1500RPM...don't think it's ever turned 2600 (rated).

Either that or the B guys just get their work done quicker. :)

I suspect that a major difference is mowing. A BX is more likely to be used for finish mowing than most B's. I know you can use a B for finish mowing but many of us don't.

Thinking about it a bit more, it may be due to the fact that a large number of BX's have backhoes, probably many more than the number of B's so equipped. The extra time probably comes from doing backhoe work.

I dunno about the finish mowing thing. I finish mow with the B7610. The only other B I know of nearby also does finish mowing.

Bob Young hit on part of the truth here. I'm pretty sure that the hour meter on a BX records run time, not PTO rpm time like the larger tractors. I think the other thing is that the BX is very well sized, and has very good attachments for the majority of things a small landowner needs to do. Kubota sure hit a sweet spot with that one!

I ran some numbers, and it looks like if you rented a small tractor (BX, or B size) it would take you a little over two years at that rate to pay for your own. Around here the going rate is around $275/day for tractors that size.

I thought that the L size usage was interesting. It seems that most folks that buy that size tractor know what they need, and have the jobs to keep them busy. They are working tractors, and the numbers prove that.

Very interesting, all in all, and I'm glad you compiled those numbers!

Also look at it another way. If a tractor can run 5000 hrs. How many years well it last you. I don't think I'll get to trade anymore at that rate. And you can also see why some warranties are for 5 years. They could go to 10 years.

I bought an 1992 L3650 this spring, it had 3400 hours and I think I now have 3650 hours on it. I not that experienced with tractors but starts and runs almost perfectly. The dealer put a FEL on it this year and it has not had any troubles. I'm now starting the winter, I had hoped to have a garage built over the summer but it did not happen. Starting a 10 F has been no troubles. We did put a block heater onto it so I can start it at the -35 weather.

Garth,

Here in Texas, I'm wondering why you would want to start it in -35 degree weather? :D

I guess you can call it " A Northern thing!". Nothing like fresh fallen virgin, crunchy, squeaky snow on a zero degree morning. Kind of grows on us....:)
