I would love to have a new cab tractor but I don't see myself doing it anytime soon. I put a new tach on 3 years ago and I just barely have 120 hours on it. My wife would come unglued if she were to find a new tractor in the shed. Maybe by the time this one is worn out I can talk her into a used cab tractor.

 Reminds me of when I replaced my Scotts mower with a new J-D 455. Figuring the missus wouldn't really notice the new tractor, I mean, after all, the 955 was green and so was the new one (and the J-D guy gave me a really good deal on a trade) so, she was used to seeing me riding around on a green tractor. As long as they weren't both in sight at the same time, I'd be home clean, right? All was well until I managed to have them both outside the garage (it's about 75 yards from the house, and she never goes in there - it's too scary, she says ) one day and she came home from work early.
Phew!! Won't forget that one for a while. :(
But, I got to keep it, so, after sleeping in the garage with it for a few weeks, I guess it was worth it. After that, since I already had two of 'em, it was a piece of cake replacing the 455 with a 595. The third one MAY be a bit more difficult.

Bought my 855 from the local JD dealer yesterday. :) Too bad they're not going to deliver until next Saturday. :( It has 1100 hours. The dealer sold it new in '92 and it's only had 1 owner. It was mostly used for cutting grass and moving the boat in and out of the barn and it's appearance matches how they said it was used. It didn't have a loader, so the dealer had ordered a Woods unit for it before I looked at it. I'm looking forward to putting a few hundred more hours on it!

Congrats on your purchase. I am sure you will not be disapointed. If it only has 1100 hours on it you will have many more good hours left. With proper care I have been told they can go 3000 to 4000 hours before any major work needs to be done. Let us know how you like it and how the woods loader works out for you.

Just bought a "new to me" 955 last week. It was a tough decision between it and a TC30 (almost twice the price). But the 955 on;y had 157 hours and looks almost new. I was little concerned it might be too small but has performed very well so far. It is very easy to operate and has plenty of usable power for what I do - mostly mowing and blading.
It also came with a JD 513 rotary cutter but doesn't have the slip clutch, I've replaced the shear bolt 6 times already.
The only complaint (if you can call it that) is the exhaust routing. It seems like the exhaust is always in your face. Maybe I can search TBN for ideas on a re-route.

My 955 with FEL is mostly used for mowing (with RCutter). It does lots of other things too, though. Last fall, I changed my wife's opinion of the 955 by making a fancy outdoor fire ring for her with pavers and retaining wall. The 955 did the ground work for that.
I'll keep it around for as long as it lasts, which should be quite a while.

Bought my 855 early this summer.
1987 model, 750 hours on it.
It was a "cabin queen". Sat in the garage
and was only used on weekends at the cabin.

Has been VERY handy. FEL, and 5' back blade.
Has made a lot of projects easier.
Also use it to go to the mail box, daily.
(looooong driveway)

Enjoy

I purchased a 655 last june.Mowed with it a few times then decided to restore it.I can tell you that, from the foundation up,the 55 series was ahead of it's time. The two pedal hydro is addictive.I love mowing with it.The turning radius is so tight i could almost keep up with a ZTR.She has 950+ hours on the clock, hopefully many more to come. The only thing that hurts is the price and availability of parts. The 655 was only produced for a few years. When the 955 came along they killed the 655.
