how many still own a 55 series deere

My 755 has 3500 plus hours on it now and is starting to have just little things going on with it mostly electrical. I am seriously considering trading it off this winter but I still love using it. I probably use it more then I use my 4700. Great little tractor, handles very well, runs well, and has a lot of power for its size. I will be sad when it leaves here.

One nice thing about these older tractors like the 755 is the very simple electrical system. Not very many wires on a one page schematic, unlike the new ones that can be quite complex spread out over many pages. Kind of like the difference between the wiring on a 1960 car and a 2010 model.

Very true...and when one is an electrical moron like I am, that's something to consider

My 755 has 890 hrs , It has been the most useful piece of equipment I have ever owned. Here is some thing else to consider. The new tractor have cast aluminum rears which our prone to breakage on the axle tubs and top link mounts. I think every one gets new tractor Itis, but look at the big picture.

I bought my 955 with FEL and 72" MMM 18 months ago from a guy down the road. One owner, 825 hours. He wanted $9 grand, I paid it, and not until I started looking at TBN did I realize what a deal I got.

Look at the price used 55 series tractors with high hours are commanding. That should tell you their worth.

I went back and read the earier posts on this topic where the original poster's 14 year old son thought they should move up to a newer tractor as the old 755 was a dinosaur and a new cab tractor was needed. There were a few responses suggesting that Dad not cave into the demands and let the boy spend his own money on a tractor after he moves out.

As our children start to develop other interests outside of the home it makes me appreciate the time when my sons were active with the tractors, snowmobiles, etc. I'm not saying we buy a new tractor just because one of the boys thinks we need one but having them involved with the tractors and working on the property is really priceless. I have some pretty nice memories of the boys when they were working the tractors and going with me for parts and supplies. Picking up the literature on the new tractors at the dealership and suggesting what model we needed was pretty neat looking back. It also made a little easier sell to the "Mrs."

But back to the question of the 55 series Deere, I think these were impressive tractors. I owned 3 different 855s and a 955 over a 10 year span. They were really the first tractors that made the loader a quick attach/detach procedure. The 855 had good power but the 955 clearly had more. The engine made more noise but pretty much unstoppable with the loader. With proper care they ran a long time. My brother has an 855 with at least 2000 hours and still runs strong.

They don't have the elaborate electronics of the new ones and they don't turn as short either. They don't have tilt/telescoping steering nor the super deluxe seat suspensions but for a nice functional compact utility tractor I think they are still hard to beat.

All this talk about how great the 55 series tractors are is making me feel old. I very distinctly remember buying mine brand new and the day the dealer delivered it to our place. And you guys are talking about them as vintage tractors!

Probably, even though it's only been twelve years since the last ones were produced. Maybe that brings up more detailed questions. How many original purchasers of new x55 machines, like us, still own them? And for how long? Bought mine in 1993.
