how many still own a 55 series deere

The 655 was only produced for a few years.When the 955 came along they killed the 655.

I think a little research would indicate the 655 was replaced by the 755.
No experience with the 655's, but one former co-worker of mine had a 755 for years (might still have it, in fact...been a year or so since I've seen him). He really liked that little machine.
Another buddy had an 855. That tractor was rode hard and put away wet on a lot of occasions. It was also the only hydro I have any amount of hours on. Great machine, that 855!!! It was also one of the reasons I bought a tractor when my old Wheelhorse gave it up...

The only negative thing I have ever heard or read about any of the x55 series machines is that parts are beginning to get harder to obtain.

Roy I assume he was just referring to the fact that at about the time the 655 was discontinued was when they introduced the 955. The 6/7/855 all began in 1986. 1990 was the last year for the smallest in the series 655, and the first year for the largest in the series 955. 1998 was then the last year for the 7/8/955. All are good tractors.

The 655 used the 3TN66 found in the 330/332/F915/375 SSL.The crankshaft rating of 16hp was capable enough,but the hydro transmission choked it down to 10.6hp at the PTO.It shared the same rear end assembly as the 755/855,which didn't help matters in the engine room.The word from most deere field reps was that customers complained it was underpowered.True enough,it isn't a "big bud".But,if it is used in it's intended role,it is a capable machine.You just have to know when to switch to low range.

My 755 has 3500 plus hours on it now and is starting to have just little things going on with it mostly electrical. I am seriously considering trading it off this winter but I still love using it. I probably use it more then I use my 4700. Great little tractor, handles very well, runs well, and has a lot of power for its size. I will be sad when it leaves here.

Not sure yet. I have looked at some 4300's and 4400's. I have even considered maybe a 970 or 1070. I know they are gear driven but for what I do with the 755 a gear tractor wouldnt matter. I have all winter so I am not in too big of a hurry.

Boy, those are all a lot bigger and closer to your 4700's capabilities...maybe even a degree of overlap. All good machines!! I was pretty close to buying a 4300 about 6 years ago, but waited too long...ended up with a 790 instead (as I'm sure you knew).

I still have my 855. Been a fantastic tractor. Does have a few quirks due to age and wear. I don't really know how many hours are on it. Maybe 900, maybe a lot more. Hour meter was not working when I got it almost 4 years ago.

I also have pondered trading it, not because of its quirks but because I could use a machine with capabilities that this one lacks and trading this one would be more cost effective. otherwise, i'd keep both.

For the time being however, I'll stick with my 855 and put up with quirks and compensate for things it cannot do. I'll also save the payments.
