how many still own a 55 series deere

I just recently purchased a JD 955 in a box and rebuilt the engine, repainted all of the body work, re-plumbed some of the rusted out hydraulic lines, added some new rims and R4 tires to the rear, bought a woods backhoe for it, bought a rotary cutter, and am tackling the "Power Beyond" next.

Basically she looks brand new (except for all the recent scratches from my landscaping on the property we bought).

I too, just bought a 955 a few months ago. It needs some TLC, but is mostly cosmetic. I'm having problems with the PTO and will be tearing the trans axle down this winter to rebuild the PTO clutch pack. So far, I've been happy with it, but I'm sure I'll like it more once I get the PTO fixed. Mine did not come with a loader, so finding a loader is also on the list but is proving to be a bit of a snipe hunt.

My personal opinion is that a tractor without a loader isn't nearly as good as one with. So in spite of the fact that I have a loader on my 855 and a loader on my little Beaver, should I add another tractor to the fleet for mowing duties, it will also have a loader. Just because I like having a loader availble. I have already used both loaders on on project so there is precident.

I bought a 755 with FEL, Backhoe, 2 mower decks, and a 5 gallon pail of spare parts for $7,500 last summer. It had 1780 hours when I got it, now 1850. I had to fix a few minor issues, and now it is running good.

I was ready to buy a new tractor, but my dad talked me out of it. I don't have a payment, and the backhoe was a bonus.

I hope to keep this tractor running for many years. After moving snow this winter, I am going to add a turbo. It also doesn't like the hill in the back yard with a bucket of dirt and the backhoe attached.

Solid tractor, they don't make 'em like they used to.

I realize this thread has been dormant for a while, but I also have a 955 and was curious, Rockabye, if you ever completed the Power Beyond install? sorry if you've already posted the answer to this somewhere else. I am interested in the PB for mine and installing a remote for a grapple bucket (eventually). I have the 70a loader on mine.
