How much off sticker price?

/ How much off sticker price? #31
The information from my dealer is that the markup on the Kubota website is around 20% over the wholesale price. My dealer says he has to make 8% to break even. To survive and pay the bills may take that number to 10%. In the end, if you can get 10% off of the website price it is probably a good deal.

So.... if you're "on the money" or more correctly - your dealer is on the money - then Kubota must cost more than a comparable John Deere; yes??

Say, a Grand L 5740 vs cab model 4520? They spec out almost bolt for bolt...

Contact Barlows and go from there.

Barlow responds with just a total price, no breakdown price of the tractor vs implements or even a list of what you asked for. However, it is a good price :D but does not include delivery. If you're like me, I check different configurations / different sized tractors, so sometimes I forget what tractor I priced  I've been debating my next tractor purchase for a good while now, they have gone up in price so much since my last purchase, it's hard to pull the trigger on a new one.

also check with Messick's, they also have good prices.

The value of the tractor is worth the name of the dealership. The value of the tractor is worth the service the dealership gives you AFTER you buy a tractor.

A tractor dealership is NOT a car dealership. It's offensive when customers come in thinking they will haggle a price. The tractor is worth what it is worth.

Keep it simple, negotiate, but don't over do it. It's offensive to begin asking to lower a price- especially when you don't have good credit or any money for the down payment.

I also used Kubota's website to configure a tractor, and I did alot of research on this site and with friends. The first dealership I went to quoted me $800 above the MSRP! The second dealership was at least below MSRP. I contacted a total of 5 dealerships, and the price difference was $300 to $3000. Every dealership stated that was there best deal and would not move on the price. The actual tractor price had the biggest discount. The options had little or no discount.

That pretty much mirrors my experience, although I only contacted 3 dealers. But the one in a fairly large city quoted a price that was right at or slightly above MSRP. the 2 local, more rural dealers were actually within $7-800 of each other, and about $4500 less than the larger city dealer. Someone also mentioned the discount is on the tractor, not the extras...that's also how it worked out for me. As best as I can figure, it looks like everything added up to a discount of a little over 16% from list, this was on a B2920. My only regret was not contacting Barlows along with the others.

Yup... keep it simple - don't overdo it. But.... if the dealer is $4,500 higher than another dealer - well, that's offensive, too.

And that pays for a whole bunch of SERVICE down the road! My experience is whenever you fail to "stick up for yourself" by not respectfully dealing for a "competitive price" i.e. giving the dealer whatever he wants - he's gonna walk all over you on future service work, too!

And whenever you see that behavior/demeanor in a future dealer/customer relationship developing - RUN!!!

Thanks for all the replies! I ended up getting a pretty good quote from barlows and was ready to pull the trigger, but at the last minute my local dealer beat them by $350 plus I didnt have to pay any delivery cost so I ended up saving over $750. The tractor should be ready for delivery in about a week. Cant wait. Its a Grand L 5740 with a FEL and a loaded Cab. Thanks again!
