I've used two cheap-o digital tire gauges on mine multiple times and they still work just fine.

I have one of those pistol grip style inflators with a gauge on it from Lowes. The rubber hose is plenty long so I just make sure the gauge is higher than the wvalve stem and then once done checking I give the tire a shot of air. I did replace the gauge because it went to some extreme pressure, like 160 or maybe even 180 psi with a 60 psi USG gauge but never had a problem with liquid getting into it.
