Having dug much further than 2" before I am fairly certain that the sandy soil that is on the top and what is at 2" is virtually the same.

Thanks again for all the input everyone. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to rent a sprayer? I wouldn't really have any other need for one than for this application, so I hate to buy one. Also, it sounds like a spot sprayer is what is used most often, but would it be better to use a sprayer with booms on each side?

Thanks.

Can't say for your area, but sprayers can be rented around here. The downside to using a broadcast (boom) sprayer is that any plant that is targeted by your chemical will die. Spot spraying allows you to be more selective.

With that said - if you're wanting to renovate that pasture your best option may be to broadcast spray the appropriate chemicals to kill everything. After waiting the necessary amount of time use a no-till drill to plant a good pasture mix. Timing may be an issue for you; here in KY, I sprayed a field w/ Buccaneer (a RoundUp-type chemical) in mid September, waited 2 weeks and then drilled a grass/clover mix. By the next spring I was able to allow the horses some limited time on the pasture, and by the second spring it was fully established. I plan on doing the same on another pasture this coming fall.

We have a local Hardware/Farm Supply that we rent from. Many areas have Farm Bureau or other Coops that rent these rigs out at cost. Ken Sweet

What he said. :D

I also rent the no-till seed drill from the local conservation district. Of course, you have to have a large enough tractor (with remote) to use it. Up til now I've borrowed a neighbors tractor; this year I'll be using my M6040.

My Oldest Son lives just south of you. He is in Stanford. The Lincoln County Farm Bureau there, has 6 No-Till drills and several inline haylage tubers and he does prevenative Maintainence on them and also keeps some of the equipment at his farm for the Bureau to rent to his neighbors. I wish my county was as aggressive as Lincoln County about trying to help the farmer. Ken Sweet

ok, I found a buddy that has a 60-gallon PTO sprayer. I am going to borrow it. The question I have now is what chemical mixture should I use. I really am not opposed to killing everything in the pasture and starting from scratch. I just got a nice disc harrow, so I can put it to good use turning the ground over and putting out some grass seed. What do y'all think I should use???
