It sounds like the OP answered his own question. Businesses, banks and government have found that "fees" are another way of making money. I paid to have the oil changed in my pickup; they tacked on a $3.00 "oil disposal fee." The garage has a waste oil furnace.

My cable company had more added "fees" than Carter has liver pills and I refuse to pay them, I don't miss them either..

Hey, the OP’s getting a good deal, they forgot to add the transport charge, storage surcharge, additional overcharge, and pure profit fee.

I've had businesses do this and it really chaps me. I feel like they're just too stupid to build it into the cost and call it a day. On a multi-hundred dollar piece of equipment I don't generally blink at $30, but when they put it on a special line item I feel like they are just rubbing it in my face.

Well, I called them and they said they previously quoted $880 and the invoice said $850 plus $30. I still think it’s lousy business but I paid it and moved on to more important things. While we’re on this kick the local tire store charges a $1.50 per tire state tire tax plus a disposal fee and then adds the whole tab together and charges sales tax on that number so you’re paying tax on a tax.

If Indeed they originally quoted you $880, and that’s what they billed you, what’s the beef? I don’t see this as an after the fact price increase the way you describe it.

It mike make you feel good to be oblivious to the fact that tariffs cost the consumer money, I guess, but showing the effect steel price volatility has on transaction price isn’t a bad thing.

An educated consumer is a wise consumer.

I can't tell you how many times I walked out on a motorcycle or car deal when they tried to add a "doc fee". (I do give them the chance to take it off though)

Exactly my thinking. Unfortunately I haven稚 found a better option or I壇 throw their quote in the trash and buy somewhere else. I didn稚 mean to crop the picture the way it is but it says steel surcharge.

You can ask if they can get the bucket on the next shipment they order for other products to maybe save you some $. If it makes you feel any better, my 12 bucket was about $1000 as well.

That may be related to the 25% import tariff on Canadian steel (and 10% on aluminium). I am not trying to or interested in starting a political discussion or figure out good or bad, but this is likely the side effect.

... but the dealer is. Because politics have real world effects.

They know how much steel cost. Adjust the selling price accordingly. If the listing price was $30 higher I壇 have never blinked an eye. I致e kicked around the idea of the 1k bucket for a while because that hurts but now I have work lined up for it so I知 getting one one way or another.

They did adjust (bottom line) selling price accordingly. They just itemized it for you.

If I need fact, they originally quoted you $880, and that痴 what they billed you, what痴 the beef? I don稚 see this as an after the fact price increase the way you describe it.

...and maybe a wiser voter. (..if tariffs are a factor.)

It's their way of pointing out that they had to increase prices due to the current trade war.

Just look at the bottom line as that's what you are writing the check for.
