Update, the 3520 is finally back after a few weeks in the shop on the warranty repair (3PT Hydraulic valve failed) and it has a little brother (2004 GX255), and a MMM, so now I have a tandem for grass cutting. I will get back at using the flail mower too - it will be relegated to brush cutting at this point. All units fit in my detached garage so everything is fine! Since I gonna use both to cut, having to move them both each time is not an issue. As mentioned in another thread, my next activity is Operation "will those turf specials fit". One thing right away with the addition of the MMM, is that the unit feels a bit more stable just one flat ground. I have yet to try it on the slopes. but with the lil' GX255, I probably no longer have a slope issue, as it can handle all of those and in good time with its 54" MMM deck. So now the Turf specials are more for grass protection and comfort, than the stability worry fix. I gotta try running without my bucket on, and then without the loader on - but that will require some repositioning in the Detached Garage/shed.

I tried mowing with my bucket off - once. Somehow both quick lock pins with the little cables (for bottom of bucket) got lost. Tried mowing with FEL off - once. Yes it's relatively easy to get the FEL off, but getting perfectly lined up and reconnecting the QA couplers, then cleaning the spilled hydraulic fluid off the mower is not so simple as when the salesman demo's the procedure by backing up a couple of inches - not unhooking the QA's and then drives forward and presto the FEL is installed.

Also decided taking off the BH to mow is even more work. Did that once also. So far only drawback seems to be a bit of extra caution is needed when backing up near obstacles becasue of BH sticking out 4'-5' in back and make sure the bucket doesn't dig in from time to time. I only have a couple of slopes and find it is actually easier to do them with the riding LM when I have it out to trim some of the tight areas. Weight of FEL and BH does not seem significant when spread over 4 wheels vis a vis additional turf damage.

I'm waiting to hear how you make out with the Turf Specials.

Well, I took the rears over to the local tire shop to get the wheels switched, the current wheels have 6 lug holes vs the 8 I need. So I get the rears back tomorrow. I was gonna try on the fronts today but did not get to it. It will be interesting to see how the rears fit, they are 41" in diameter and the current rear R4s are ~37" in diameter. So since the JD specs indicate that when you install the turf specials, the height of the cab is lower than with the small R-4s., So we shall see by earliy Saturday if the rears will fit and will not increase the height of the cab (which in turn would not allow the unit to enter the 90" opening in the Garage/Shed!), which would be a problem! seems the Turfs might have to set on the narrow setting which results only in a few inches more of stance than the R-4s. Those Turf Specials are so soft they most likely flatten out with the weight of the tractor and that is why they should produce less height than the much stiffer R-4s. Once I get the tires on, good or bad, I will upload pics.

That's great. The fronts look to be smaller in diameter than my standard R3 Turfs. That must be what gives the clearance needed on a hard turn.

CinderS, Yes they are, they are 25" in diameter, versus 27". So they allow me to run them at the widest seeting. Again Thanks for the help you provided with those pics!
