Hummingbirds!!! Seeing any yet??

Feeders (3 this year) will be empty in a day here! The little things are PIGS! I have blooming shrubs and such, they can feed on, so tend to not refill the feeders daily. Bring them in, clean them, and wait a couple of days before refilling and putting back out. Otherwise, I'd go through more sugar than I want to buy!

Saw our first ruby today...beautiful.

We have been seeing them at the ranch for about 4-5 weeks now; had as many as 8 at a time at one feeder. They have to wait in line to get to it. The pigs go through all three feeders in about a day and a half.

I saw one a few days ago. No feeder. Hummingbirds are cute but, their fighting gets on my nerves.

ok quite being a tight wad and get the birds some feed and feed them every day. buy the sugar 25 lb bags it's cheaper just make sure when the cop's follow you home you tell them it's for the birds and not for making moon shine.:licking:

Well - here in mid-Georgia we're seeing the hummingbirds again; mid-September 2013. I suppose they're coming through on the way back South?

We hesitate to put out too much feed for them for fear that they'll hang around all winter and freeze.

We have tons of HB right now, had allot of males, but now it seems like a majority of females.

Jim, you can leave your feeders out as long as you want, it will not effect HB migrating, but it will help feed the "stragglers" headed south. I read a study the other day, that HB's remember feeders on their route and will use them for energy while traveling. When it's time to go, they will leave no matter what you have put out.

Our central Wisconsin "locals" left weeks ago but the feeders are still getting hit by birds that choose to live north of here and pass by for some food (different birds entirely...we host ruby throats and greens whereas the guests are a mix of little tiny ones and some very big ones...but still hummingbirds). You should be seeing them soon. Feeding concerns??? I think they are smarter than we are...they seem to have little weather computers in their heads...I've yet to hear of anybody in history finding a frozen hummingbird other than in some freak storm.

Same here. I was surprised to see a tiny HB last week. Has to be one moving through from farther north, only hung around for two days.
