I just checked Surplus Center: (Not taking away from Wayne, just an example of fair pricing)

1" Hose x 36" NPT Male 2-wire = $29 plus shipping.

Surplus Center Item Detail

Wayne, please get that website fully functional. I'm sure your business will increase. I'll bookmark, since you are in PA shipping is probably just a day or two to Maryland.

I called my webmaster yesterday and complained about the updates not being in yet.

There is no way I can compete with the internet houses on pricing. They pay phone jockeys from a temp agency $8 an hour and get inferior product from China and India. To make anything on the hose listed above, I would have to get $40 + shipping. Like I stated in another post, internet, Northern tool, and TSC stuff is manufactured and assembled in China or India. People complain about Chinese stuff, but when I sell better quality and more expensive, I get beat up on my price while quality is never mentioned. If I paid my help a bag of rice and 5 cents a day, I could compete.

It's funny, I'll get an excavating contractor in here telling me he can get stuff cheaper by mail order or at TSC. I just tell him go get it there. And by the way, when I need something done, I'll just hire a bunch of Mexicans because you charge too much. Then he gets mad and yells at me that there's no way they can do a better job than he can. Then I tell him that now he knows how I felt 2 minutes ago and thanks for making my point for me. Ugh....enough of my rant. I hate rainy Saturdays.

Nice rant by the way...:D

Anywhere in the country experiencing drought would love that weather...I guess it's all a matter of perspective...similar to your discussion with the excavating contractor...:D

In fact, that is the major problem that this country is experiencing right now...neither side can seem to see the other side's valid points...

Before I get blasted I don't say that either side has ALL of the answers, but each side seems to have pieces to the puzzle that would be solved more effectively if there was less partisan activities on both sides...

It has been my experience that any kind of contractor I get has a bunch of mexicans doing the work for him.

You might be lucky and not know it. In this area they've mostly yet to discover cheap illegal labor. In turn, it's almost impossible to get a contractor to do anything that's not a blank checkbook time and materials job.

A $500 fixed price piece of minor work? Forget it. They won't even call you back.

We all end up forced to do about everything ourselves...

My Ford Ranger was made in Minnesota.

Enjoy that old rant as there is a kinder gentler me here now. Jeez, I just read that and said, "Who is that idiot?" But, it is the truth.

Your a good man Wayne, It's true about products, we all do it, most of us have been to a dollar store, and we know we need to spend our wisely. But there is a big line between quality, and usually no question about service.
Not to get into the policical thing but it is interesting of what we can import into our countries BUT we can't export to other countries hummmm.

Tks for the vehicle support Shane

Wayne, I believe I share the feelings of your rant. There is a lot of mail order and store shelf crap out there and the risk of trusting it is obvious once you get past naivete'. Sometimes - not infrequently - I run into products that surprise me with their value tho. This shows me the benefit of looking hard at what is available from all sources. My view is that a bias toward a specific supplier or product is based on experience, but not necessarily experimentation. You are safe with the known. Product costs are higher tho, and odds are that the marketplace offers substantially identical products at better value. You wont find them by always being safe. For instance, from my perhaps naive perception, I recently purchased, from Surplus Center, 2 each 10' and 4' 3/8" hoses with JIC8 fittings that I think are superior. I ordered hoses rated at 4kpsi. The hoses I got bear this descriptor: NHP-JONES A150 HYDRALITE II 3/8 INCH-6 (9.5mm) SAE100R16 W.P. 4500PSI FLAME RESISTANT, USMSHA NO. IC-2G-31C/2 MADE IN USA 3Q06. The 4" hoses were $14 and the 10' were $26. I may be wrong, but these have the appearance and feel of a superior product. It would be great to find out how they compare to a Gates or Parker 4Kpsi hose with the same type of connector. I guess I could join a string of different varieties and pump them up to 10K with my Porta Power and let them sit. It would be interesting.
I cant expect you to be be able to compete with the economy of scale of making a thousand of each size at a time. To me yould be the place down the street when I need it NOW - - or if I really need custom stuff to make it work. Those are worth a premium.

There is a minimum spec that all hoses must meet to be given a 100R classification. I believe the minimum is 500,000 cycles at max psi. Any hose you buy with a 100R spec will do that. Any hose I sell is tested to 1,000,000 cycles, double the standard. Do you need that? I don't know. Ask me the next time you blow a hose.

Everybody wants a less expensive product until it fails them or has too much lead. Then it's a cheap piece of junk. Just remember, there is no such thing as a free lunch.

I'm in my shop on a stormy Sunday afternoon. Just made and installed a 3/4" hose 12 feet long on a plow/salt truck. Yep, came in on a Sunday in my 2wd ranger in a snow and ice storm to do this. Snow melting, dripping all over me as I'm under this F-550 changing this hose. I haven't even had breakfast yet. Just came on here to wind down for a few minutes. Charged the guy normal price. If an internet, mail order, or big box store will give you this type of service, I bow down to them. Until then, I'm here in Pigsknuckle Pennsylvania trying to make ends meet.
