Hydraulic Tip 'N Tilt

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Bird, I just bought a D490 Zoom. Olympus is offering a FREE USB reader to anyone purchasing a D460 or a D490 up till 02/01/01 (I think there are a couple of other models as well under the offer). I bought mine from a Ritz Camera shop locally. They gave me a form to fill out and send in. The form says it may take up to 6 weeks to get the reader, but it's better than buying one for about $50. The offer is from Olympus so it ought to be available from where you bought your camera. Good Luck. BTW, downloading through the serial port is not as slow as I've been led to believe. It actually works pretty well.

P.S. - The rest of you guys with your fancy tractor pictures are the reason I spent $500 for a digital camera, so I could post a picture or two of mine. That's about $250 a picture... And I thought I bought my tractor to save a few $$$....

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Corm, I considered the 490 ($100 more money than the 460), but decided the one additional feature wasn't worth it to me; although I can see how it would be to some people. I bought mine at Circuit City; guess I'll have to call that salesman tomorrow and ask about that offer of a free reader.

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Bird -

Yeah, go for the reader if it's free.

Even if you're out of serial ports or don't have USB, you can probaly add a USB port or two for minimual bucks.

The mail-in form is downloadable from the Olympus web site. It only mentions the 490 in the blurb, but it's worth checking out.

If you get it and can't use it, I know of a few other Olympus owners who would be glad to take it off your hands, old pal, old buddy. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Harv, great camera site. Lots of models to compare. I especially liked the links to the consumer reviews. The Pentax EL 200 is quite nice. A little out of my range though./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif My standard 35mm point and shoot is a Pentax. I hear ya on using the USB cable. The port is kinda hard to get to. Could leave the cable hooked up I guess. And get an AC adapter to power the camera with so that my wife won't use up all the batteries with her eBay picture work./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Can you believe it, John Deere stopped one of her auctions once./w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

My digital photo taker has a USB port and the software that came with the phototaker allows for very fast down loads. I have down loaded more than 10 pictures in less then 1 minute. The first time I used it I was suprized in the speed. I have a Fujifilm 1400Zoom Camera. Love it.

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Just to be clear on downloading directly from the camera to the computer --

Some Olympus camers, like mine and Bird's use the old RS-232 kind of serial port. That's the one that is reportedly slow.

Other cameras are now using the more modern USB serial ports, which are quite a bit faster.

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Slow is what they told me about down loading from my Cannon to the computer. So I got a reader. It's as fast or it seems as fast as a CD. But its probably not. It's a flashpix card by the way.

Yep, Harv, the free reader is apparently only for the 490; not the 460./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

It's probably not the best time, since we've had nothing but cold, rain, and mud lately, my poor tractor is filthy, and the lighting wasn't the best where it's parked in the shop, but I thought I'd try posting a picture of the Tisco valve I used for the tip 'n tilt.

Well, since that worked, I'll try a picture of the cylinders.
