Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Bird,

I knew you would get that T&T sorted out. You are one of those guys that gets in the shop and won't come out until you win./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Wish I was better at that. I was a little surprised that the parts ended up just over $800. Being a bit "shop challanged", the $900 -$1000 the dealer quoted may be worth it. I figure if you had to make 4 or 5 trips to town, I would make so many that the gas saved would take care of the dealers profit.

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

MarkV, I thought the $1,000 or so that dealers quoted was far too high, first thinking I could probably do it for $500-600. Lots of cylinders can be found much cheaper than I paid, but I don't know what it would cost to get the proper ends put on them. And lots of valves can be found much cheaper, too, but they were all so big and heavy (made for 20-30 gallon per minute flow and I didn't need, or want, that). Another thing I did was have to pay for 3 extra hoses because (1) I went brain dead and didn't think about the fact that the metal ends on the hoses are pretty long so you can't start to bend them at all for several inches, and (2) I wanted them as close as possible to the exact minimum length necessary - my brother says I should have just gotten them plenty long and tie up the surplus somewhere and I didn't want that. And of course I could have saved a few dollars by using the power beyond port on the loader instead of the optional rear hydraulic outlet on the tractor. Longer hoses would have been necessary, but that would have been cheaper than the $68.95 that hydraulic outlet cost. So . . ., there's no reason you can't do it yourself, but the dealer's price ain't bad, especially if you count your time for anything and in my case, the mileage since I live so far from town.

And MarkC, I'm sure it'll be worth it when I start to straighten up my yard where the water company had to bring a big backhoe into that quagmire to repair the water main. Lord only knows when that'll be since it's stayed muddy, rained again last night, and a forecast for more rain (possibly even a few snowflakes) for the next 4 days. Next trip to town, I'll certainly inquire about the flow restrictors, because I definitely want the cylinders to act slower.

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Bird,
Thanks for sharing your trials and tribulations with the T&T. There are some good things to come from them. First, you can take pride that you overcame them and did the job yourself. Second, it has made me, and probably some others too, realize that I do not want to try this myself. Concerning the brick wall and water line, this will give you an opportunity build a better wall and do some landscaping with your tractor.

OK, I'm going to try again to attach the "instruction manual" (one page) for the optional rear hydraulic outlet that some models of Kubotas have available. The sheet shows for B1700, B2100, B2400, but of course, it's also for at least the B2710 and I don't know how many others.

<font color=blue>6C040-9510-0 Hydraulic Outlet Kit $68.95</font color=blue> for that??

The document is almost useless (as you said /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif), but it looks to me like the "Outlet Kit" is simply an extension, with a right angle.

Now that it is all together you may not remember, but were the ports exposed by removing the cover the same as the ports on the new block (<font color=blue>1/4-18 NPSF</font color=blue>)? If so, could you have run your hoses directly to the side of the tractor and not purchased the Kubota part? If you did that, you would have wanted right angle connetions for the tractor, but I bet that would have been a lot less than $70

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Nope, Mark, the holes in the tractor are not threaded. The little plate that you remove has one longer O-ring (convoluted?) that seals around a channel that lets the oil flow through it, then the new outlet comes with the two O-rings so the oil has to flow out and back in through that outlet and whatever hoses you attach to it. I'm curious as to how many different model Kubotas have this outlet. And, yep, that price sure seems high to me, but then so does anything I buy nowadays./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

With the JD790, the kit comes with the parts for a tractor with the SCV and for without the SCV (SCV means FEL valve setup /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif).

The rear outlets kit has metal pipes that go from the tractor to a metal mounting plate out the back - underneath the seat - and then returns to the main valve. Then a hose connects the Out to the In so the circuit is completed for the open centered system. No connection for the tank because the system has a relief and is designed to flow right within the 3PH valving when no pressure is needed by either of the auxilliary valves. That all costs $160-$170 /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif. I think it is the rigid piping that is bent specifically for my application that drives up the price.

On the other hand, I can get a "kit" that sends the FEL valves to the back; really, just a couple of long hoses with male quick connect on one end and female on the other, then a another mounting bracket that goes in the same place. That kit is $145, and you'd need 2 for top and tilt /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif. I figured the rear outlets was ok, but I couldn't believe what they wanted for the extender kit!

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Well, the saga continues./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif I had to go to town today, so first I checked with two different places to try to find flow restrictors to make the cylinder function more slowly. Both places told me the restrictors are made for 3/8" and 1/2" hoses, but not the 1/4" hoses I'm using. In other words, forget it (unless I want to buy some $80 adjustable flow valves - so you can guess what I'm going to do)./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Then I went by to see the dealer from whom I got the Tisco parts. He called Tisco, and then put me on the phone to talk to the Tisco man. He told me there is NO documentation for he valve or cylinders; said if there's ever a problem to return them to the dealer and he can get the necessary parts. As far as instructions, he said you don't need any; just hook up the hoses./w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Not answers that pleased me./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

And then as far as the linkages for the handles, he figured out that the HV4023 valve (which I have) is supposed to be mounted in a "box" that has to be ordered separately and it provides part of the linkage. However, with the hose fittings I'm using, I can't use the box. He said the dealer should have ordered the HV4020 valve (same valve with different handles/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif). So now they're supposed to be sending different handles AND linkages.

What interesting experiences novices have./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Well Bird looks like the end is in sight. Great work. I looked at the sheet you scanned. Tells you just enough to get into trouble. What is the part about if your valve has a relief valve to go to the side of the trans, return line?

What you might want to do is a search on ebay I've seen alot of flow restrictors and reducers go pretty cheap. Just an idea.
Good luck and thanks for sharing your latest project. It's a shame that your camera deal fell through.

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Gordon, have you ever seen any flow restrictors that work on quarter inch hydraulic hoses?

And we're having just enough rain to keep everything saturated and puddles standing everywhere, so since I'm not working outside, I went to town today and bought another digital camera at Circuit City; an Olympus D-460 Zoom (a lot more money/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif, a lot better camera/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif, but a lot more complicated, too./w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif) Now all I've got to do is figure out how to use it right.

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Bird - Found some Flow Control valves that may work for you in my Bailey catalog , www.baileynet.com . They have em in 1/4 inch NPT and appear to be reasonably priced.

Page 58 of catalog, 2 types as below

NDRV series, Carbon steel body, Bailey # 450-050, @ 18.99 each

FCM series, Nickel plated brassbody w/stainless steel needle, Bailey # 450-670, @ 17.95 each.

But yes I think I know what you'll do /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Thanks, Larry, I'll check out their web site. I've looked at it before for some other things; can't remember whether you can order direct or not, but if not, I know a dealer who has their catalogs and sells their stuff.

Excellent choice of camera! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Like you said, you've traded the floppy disk convenience for higher quality. It may take a little futzing around to get your downloading technique nailed down, but once you've done that, you're in like Flint.

It may seem like the camera has a lot of features, but you will quickly find the ones you really need to get the job done. I'm glad you will be able to do closeups, so we'll all be able to see more details of your handiwork.

Keep us posted on your downloading progress. I have never used the serial port on my Olympus 'cuz I heard it was so slow, but if you're shooting images for the web, the files might be small enough to make it practical. I am currently using the FlashPath Floppy Disk Adapter which lets you read your SmartMedia cards directly through the floppy disk drive on your computer. When I get around to buying stuff again, I will probably get a USB SmartMedia card reader. Fairly cheap and much faster than what I'm doing now.

Oops! Here I go turning yet another tractor thread into a digital camera discussion. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Anyway, congrats on the new camera. (BTW - does the flash work? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif)

Me too.

<font color=blue>currently using the FlashPath Floppy Disk Adapter</font color=blue>

Me too. Cost another 80 bucks./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif Besides not having a serial port open (would have to unplug something else) and not wanting to have to get to the plugs at the back of the computer, I guess the $80 is worth it. I did snap a couple of pictures here in the house last night, managed to get them onto the screen and printed one, so looks like everything works, but I still have a lot of reading to do. And it's 32 degrees, raining, high of 34 forecast, and I have to work on air tools today./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Hey, Bird!

Your new camera also has a 12-second self-timer! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Here's your chance to see how fleet of foot you are, 'cuz we expect to see you in at least some of your pictures. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Bird, Nice camera. that was one of my choices too. Sorry to hear your experience with the other one.

Harv, How about an opinion on the camera I've decided on for me, a Fuji FinePix 2400 2.1 mp, 1600x1200, 3x optical. I also figure to get Smart Media card reader. You think its faster than a floppy disc adapter? Can't believe the pricing on these things. This one camera ranged from $318.00 to $655.63 online at www.mysimon.com

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

I'll probably do that someday, Harv, if it ever gets a little drier and a little warmer. I ought to be out in the shop fixing those 4 air tools, but my thermometer's stuck on 32, still have a light rain, my shop heater's barely enough to warm your hands over, and I've been trying to figure out how to manipulate and modify pictures instead. Making some progress, but I hate to try to use equipment that's smarter than I am (and it doesn't have to be very smart to quality either)./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Larry, I checked into the Baileynet flow control valves and talked to a nice fellow there. Those would work fine, but I guess that's what my dealer was talking about when he mentioned a figure of $80. It seems that I would need 4 of them, plus some more fittings; maybe someday, but not right now.

I don't have any personal experience with the camera you mention, but I took a look at the specs and this review. It appears to be a mighty fine camera, and I didn't read anything that would make me hesitate to buy it.

I had the actual specs on downloads at one time, but I can't find them right now. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif There's no doubt about it, though -- a SmartMedia reader would be way faster than a floppy disc adapter. Now, it looks like your camera has a built-in USB port, so you might want to give that a try before you buy a separate reader. I kinda like standalone devices myself, but if you're looking to save a buck, you might want to give it some thought.

Its small size, ease of use and its ability to take closeups makes it a perfect companion for any tractor owner. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

<font color=blue>ranged from $318.00 to $655.63</font color=blue>

Let's see ... Which one would I choose? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
