Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Harv,
Gold Country Kubota(Auburn, Ca) put together a nice setup for the rental shop down the street from me. They have two B2710's. They did it for another rental shop a few miles further down the road. They have a 2710, and a couple b1700's(7100?).

I like what they did; I just want to do it myself, and save a buck or two(ya right!).

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Bird, Ron, and others have mentioned concern for running the hoses to the T&T hydraulics when using the FEL power beyond valve. I've taken a few photos showing the hose routing on my B2910. Bottom line, there is no problem at all as you'll see in these photos. As I have not yet figured out how to post multiple pictures in one message short of creating a multi-photo file (which I don't know how to do either), I'll post several messages with the text for the specific photo.

This photo shows the valve with the two supply hoses running alongside the fender behind the seat. The seat is flipped forward in this photo. You can also see how the hoses to the rear cylinders are routed. You can also get a good look a the simple mounting bracket for the valve attached to the ROPS with large U-bolts.

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Here you can see under the tractor with the two supply hoses from the T&T valve coming down from the valve and heading forward. In the photo you'll notice the hoses are routed inside the frame but that is not necessary and I'm going to bring them outside. There is a lip inside the frame where you see the three bolts that made a nice support for the hoses and the dealer took advantage of that. However I'd rather have all the hoses bundled together. This is much more clear in the next photo.

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

This photo shows the lip more clearly and the point where the hoses turn upward. I do a lot of brush clearing and would rather have the hoses bundled tightly to avoid snags.

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

This photo shows the FEL valve and the connection to the power beyond port. The four prominent connections are the quick disconnect connectors for the FEL, between them is the power beyond port and the right angle connector for the T&T valve.

And finally, another photo of the T&T valve. Again, these are Dinoil valves made in Italy I think. They are supplied by Gearmore to my dealer.

LarryT
Thanks for posting the pictures. That helps. Also good to see you cleaned it up. Still wet underneath in pix.

Can see just enough of your box blade to be curious. Looks pretty good. What brand name and how do you like it. I am looking to replace mine. Maybe a better pix of it in another thread or email me one sometime. thanks

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

McCallum,
I am also looking at changing box blades. The best ones that have saw have been Bush Hog brand BX and MBX models. One thing that really sets these apart from most is that they have double or triple lugs for the lower lift arms. The rippers are also mounted better.
I have one now that has the standard pins on the lower arms and have bent them so bad that I can barely put the box on.

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

LarryT, thanks a lot. You're a pretty darned good photographer. I think I've got the whole picture now. I had to go to town today (something I don't do if I can help it), and stopped at yet another dealer, and darned if he didn't have a Tisco catalog that has all the components I need, except the hoses that I can have made anywhere. It would be a little cheaper (and maybe less work) to plumb it just like yours, but I want to give that optional rear outlet a try, and then if it doesn't work, I'll plumb it like yours.

McCallum, when you're looking at box blades, look at the Monroe Tufline. I like them better than anything else I've seen; tough like their name.

Larry,

Thanks for taking all the time to show us your T&T set up. It sure helps seeing all the photos. I don't think my tractor has ever been that clean./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Larry Thanks. Great pictures. I have saved the pictures for reference. Sure is a clean tractor. Can't get mine that clean now 20 degrees F. during the day. Single digits at night.

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Larry -

Thanks for the terrific pictures. Each one is worth a thousand words, so that should just about make you a Platinum Member, eh? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I've added your pictures and descriptions to my data file on tip 'n' tilt. I'm very anxious to start this project, and you've been a big help.

I just happened to be at a local Kubota dealer this morning (more about that in a minute), and among other things they quoted me a thousand bucks to put a tilt 'n' tip on my L2500DT. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif That was about $300 for labor and $700 for parts. Definitely time for a do-it-yourself project.

Now let me tell y'all briefly how dumb I am (I could start a whole thread on this topic) -- Ever since I joined this board I've been bitching and moaning about not having a "real" Kubota dealer or parts house here in the San Francisco East Bay. The only place I could find is about a 15-minute drive from my house, but in the 3 or 4 visits I made there, all I ever saw was a room full of office cubicles and a few tractors on a fully-paved lot, too small for any kind of test drive. I was vaguely aware that they assembled tractors somewhere in the back, but I was not aware of any public access to that area, nor did I see any sort of parts store at that site.

So today I happened to stop by on the chance I could find somebody who could answer some questions about getting manuals, and a lady said to go check with the parts department. -- ??? --- At her instructions I went through a gate and down a couple of doors to an adjacent building that was completely invisible from the street. Son-of-a-gun if it wasn't a fully-stocked parts house for Kubota and other equipment!

So I talked to the guy at the counter about a workshop manual and got onto the subject of maintenance. He then directed me to the service department, even further back from the street and even told me to go pick the brains of a guy back there who knows Kubotas inside and out (literally). I found the guy, who promptly said he would be glad to answer any questions I may have. He spent nearly an hour with me, and then followed me back to the parts house to hand pick the items I should get.

True to my luck, though, this gold mine of information kinda guy is leaving the company in about a week. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif The good news is that he's hanging out his own shingle as a "mobile repair" unit, fixing tractors and related equipment on the customers' site. Pretty cool except my tractor is about 100 miles outside his territory.

Uh, oh -- maybe I should have posted this in my "Boring Threads" section, but the final word is that this guy may need some help tying in a database to his website, so I might just be able to work out something on that tip 'n' tilt rig yet. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Mccallum, pressure washers are a mandatory tool when owning a tractor I've found out. Doesn't take long to clean em up! Unfortunately it's already back to normal (e.g. dirty) after a hard days work this weekend, but that's what its for! As for the box blade, it's a Gearmore. It's ok, could be better. It seems the more goodies you have, the more you want. Now that I have the hydraulic T&T, I now want hydraulic scarficer (sp?). The hydraulic tilt helps a lot as I can effectively raise and lower the scarficers by tilting the box but it would be nice to have more control. Even a manual control that you could do from the seat would be good. BUT, that luxury adds a lot to the price! I'd say the Gearmore is a good value tool, but nothing real special.

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

You're welcome MarkV, and I'm glad I took the pictures while it was clean since the clean didn't last even 24 hours! Oh well, guess I can clean it again...

Re: Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Harv, a thousand bucks is probably about right to let a dealer add the tip 'n tilt. One dealer told me the "kit" for the larger Kubotas was about $1,400 and the dealer who said he'd put one on my B2710 quoted $861 for the "kit" and $100 to $150 labor.

So . . ., it remains to be seen where this project will end, but last night I ordered everything I think I will need except the hoses that I'll have made when I get the other stuff and do some measuring (and the bracket to mount the valve I'll make like LarryT's).

Valve for Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Bird,
I got info on a Sauer-Danfoss valve from Baileynet.com; it is a much smaller valve than the Prince valve I got from Northern, and list for $170 through Bailey(3-spool). The two-spool is $105.

This is 3-spool, and has a foot print of 5x6x2", not including the levers themselves. It appears much more compact. I want the 3-spool so I can control more than just TnT. This is Bailey #220588, mdl-1637

FYI, FWIW, IMHO /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Just to be sure, is this the one you're talking about?

You've installed and are using this valve right now?

Re: Valve for Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Harv,
Yes, that is the valve I mentioned. No, I am not using it right now/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

See, I started to do this like 6 months ago or longer. I bought cylinders and a valve from Northern. I got the weld-on eyelet from my tractor repair shop dude.

I stopped though... I bought the 3-spool valve from Northern, that turned out to be MASSIVE [shock] The thing is over a foot wide, and a foot deep. It is also very heavy. What you see in the picture in thier catalog is much bigger than it looks!

It may work well on a larger tractor. But, on mine, half of it would be hanging off the tractor and be exposed to branches, fences, the usual hazards.

The price on this valve is actually about $10 less than the one in Northern too! I would like to sell mine to someone with a bigger tractor, or someone who needs the extra size and flow capabilities.

Re: Valve for Hydraulic Tip \'N Tilt

Harv,
Did'nt mean to leave you hangin' Tried to get more info for your 2500 but no luck. We hav'nt done anything "extra" with these machines yet. Looks like power beyond off the fel valve may be the way to go. I certainly would'nt mind hearing about what your kubota guy had to say?
