Hydro pedals

My buddy has foot damage and can't rock backwards to engage reverse.
Welded a 1/2" pipe union and he screws in a lenght so that he hand operates the fwd/rev.
Works for him.

Does your buddy have any pictures of this ?

* Rite ON = Like I said .

Anybody that don't like a rocker foot pedal just don't know how to apreciate them.
Either that or they haven't learned how to hate 2 pedals.

Thats why you should head on down to your Green dealer and pick up a tractor with NO linkage to adjust and the best pedal arrangement on the market... eHydro! Best of all worlds.
Seriously speaking, what absouletly killed the Kubota for me was the pedals...I can not stand that rocker pedal. I'd rather do my work around the house with an old fasioned manual shovel & rake then a tractor equipped with a rocker pedal.

I think I would still use the Kubota before a shovel :D but I agree that the Kubota rocker pedal is poorly designed. Reasons:

1. You have to lift your leg to change from heel to toe (fwd, rev) - very tiring
2. Often your boot heel is caught under the rev pedal, complicating #1
3. Not the HST pedals fault... but the brake is on the same side as the fwd/rev - you have to sit side-saddle if you need to use the brake

I know that some say to keep your foot on the pedal and learn to rock it rather than lift your leg but this is just not comfortable and does not work for me and others who have worked with it.

My side-by-side Montana is much easier to use. Plus the brake is on the LEFT (no clutch) so you can use both if necessary.

What about a strap or stirrup over the forward pedal that would allow you to pull up with your toe to engage reverse? Don't know if it would improve your situation, but would certainly be simpler than changing to dual pedals.

For that matter how about a pedal to the right of the forward pedal that just pushes up on it through a simple see-saw mechanism?

A hand shifter for the HST would be easy to make. a 3/4 pipe welded to a narrow flat plate, and bolted to the pedal, with a nice hand grip on the top. You know, 8 ball, skull, girlie knob, something to hold on to, etc

Don't like the stirrup idea especially if someone has foot/leg pain or other problems.

I do like the pivoting see-saw idea, provided there's enough room on the platform, that might be the best.

This is not my tractor, but one of the same model with modified pedals. I laugh everytime I see this picture. Love it!:D

Sorry, no pics. This is on a B7100 and the peddle is steel.

A pipe threaded female (probably a union) was simply tack welded onto the side of the rocker with the top flush so as to not interfere with normal foot usage.

While pipe can be used he generally has a short broom stick that is threaded to match.

I love it! Old school hot boat foot throttles! And it's immediately obvious which pedal selects which direction!

Those are great, now he just needs an old fashioned foot dimmer switch with the tiny barefoot pedal to complete the modification.

My Deere 4200 has the left/right hydro trans pedal arrangement and i like it. My little Deere L130 lawn tractor has the rocker hydro pedals and I really dislike it. It's hard to control reverse speed with it.

I didn't like the Kubota rocker when shopping but after using it for a while I love it and wouldn't go back to the two pedal.

It offers a lot of flexibility, when working slow in low range I sit my foot right on top of it. Traveling my foot is on the floor with a toe on the pedal.

Every so often I pull up with my toe on the front part of the pedal, this is usually if I'm twisted around trying to see something in a weird spot.

The two pedal setups are really hard to run while in certain positions like standing up trying to see the tips of your forks going into a pallet etc.

Glad I read this article and I suffer with others that dislike their pedal arrangement.

My Challenger (just like MF15xx series) has a forward pedal in the typical spot in front of the foot rest and a reverse pedal about 12" behind your foot.

It makes it tough to make a mistake, but uncomfortable to constantly lift my foot to find the Reverse pedal. It puts your foot in an un-natural position.

As I've mentioned recently in another post, I've operated three different pedal arrangements for a hydro tranny.

The heel-toe pedal on Kubotas.
Both pedals on the left in my old IH2400b.
And my Power Trac PT425 with right foot forward and left foot reverse.

My opinion?
The Kubota setup is the worst. Why would anyone put brakes and direction on the same foot?

The IH was pretty nice. Separate pedals for forward and reverse on the left foot with separate pedals for brakes on the right foot. Outstanding.

The Power Trac with the right foot forward, left foot reverse is pretty nice, too.

On both the IH and the Power Trac you could put your toes UNDER a pedal and lift to get the opposite motion. This is really handy on the Power Trac. Say you are moving along and you want to reposition your right foot with out stopping. You can just slip your left toes under the reverse pedal and lift up a tad. This lets you maintain speed while you take your right foot off the forward pedal and reposition it. Just one of the many little traits of that tractor that have endeared it to me. :)

***I'd really hate it if my BXs were like that.
I do this a lot.

You have to stand up to see what's in front of your tractor?

On a Power Trac, you can see everything. Check out this video. It shows me dropping my forks and picking up my small rock bucket (in less than 30 seconds without getting off the tractor, by the way) and you can see every thing. The video is taken by me while operating the tractor from a seated position. (if you aren't video taping yourself, it only takes 15 seconds to change implements! :) )

While I like the heel-toe hydro pedals on the Kubota, I have to agree with you about the brake pedal placement. The only way you can use the brakes for turning is if you have the cruise control engaged. Deere gets around this by putting the brake pedals on the left and having no clutch pedal.

BTW, those are cute li'l implements in your quick-change videos! :D:D:D

OK, sorry, I couldn't resist. No offense intended. Horses for courses, as the saying goes. I'm sure you can work that Power Trac in places even my Kubota wouldn't fit, let alone my JD. Heck, even in places a Kubota BX wouldn't fit.

It's my little tractor for little jobs. :D Power Trac does make larger units, I just have no need for one any larger.

I have to do the same, as well as any one else who has a HOOD! :)

The problem then is not what pedal configuration you have, but the seat safety, which on my JD 4310 stops motion making it difficult to engage a pallet with forks. That said I must have the most insensitive or sensitive seat sensor, one hand on the seat satisfies the sensor and if I'm off the tractor I can move it forward or back with one hand on the seat and one hand on a pedal.

I like the JD 2 pedals on the right and brakes on the left.
With the e hydro, those brakes are the most unused controls on the machine, I could get by if they were not even there.

Brakes are useful for sharp turning, I suppose, but I rarely used them on my old IH. My Power Trac does not have any brakes at all. :)

Great web page you've got there! It's an amazingly versatile little machine, no doubt.
