I don't care for manual so much anymore, but really enjoy the manual with shuttle shift. I also really enjoy the hydrostatic. Both transmissions are very nice to operate.

In MY opinionYou will probably not have one bit of problem with a hydro pulling trees or anything else ( I have not). The heat build up is nothing I have noticed that would be a problem or anything that is abnormal. I have hauled rocks in my bucket that weigh about a 1000 pounds up 20% to 23% grades. I like the hydro for tilling and bush hogging as well. I like the infinite control of speed for the tilling and I like the hydro for brush hogging on the edges of these ridges where I need to back into my subject on the steep edges. IE: where I need to go forward and backward repeatedly to mow the edge of a ridge that is to steep to drive parallel with. I can see where a power reverser would work good for this type of mowing. I would not worry about the hydro failing,I think they will last and hold up well under abuse. To me it is about like comparing power steering to the older vehicles that did not have power steering, they both get the job done, some people might like the feel of manual( no power) steering over power steering. My Father did not like power steering,he thought he had a better feel of the road through the( lack of better term) none power steering. Then again Dad did not like air conditioning either. He was from the old school if you know what I mean . /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Best of luck in whatever you decide to go with !!!

Re: Hydrostatic vs. Manual pro\'s and con\'s

To the fellow asking about why plowing isn't the right task for a hydro, it is simply not the most efficient use. It can do it, it will just use more fuel than a gear tractor. A well designed hydro won't overheat.

Well why not, I am a fan of dark chocolate with peanut butter chips. Of course a cookie dough blizard made with chocolate ice cream is up there too. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ken, good comment, I agree. I simply cannot overheat my HST but also know that a direct drive would be the more likely solution for those that routinely pull earth engaing implements.

Re: Hydrostatic vs. Manual pro\'s and con\'s

Alright Rat, you stole my comments. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif I was going to say that with shuttle shift, I really don't have much of a preference of hydro or gear. I really don't. So, driving them would make no "decision" for me. It would depend on price and the tractor itself. I'm sort of picky about my tractors. I don't ever leave mine outside. If a tractor has been sitting at a dealer's lot outside for 6 months, I don't want it; regardless if it is gear or hydro. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Nah, it's an easy answer Graeters is the best, AND if ya got the nerve to try it, they will have some to you the next day in dry ice

Now, as to if your foot will like it, unfortunately, that's a survey I've never been able to complete. I can never get it past my mouth.
