bought a big JD around 2005/2006 for work, I forget the model, but we pulled a 12-15" batwing with it. Even back then, it was made in Mexico, or at least a crapton of the parts were.

whatever model this is, I was very surprised Mexico was all over that thing.

My father's 1994 JD6400 I believe was built in Germany.

According to Deere’s annual reports, they had 26,900 employees in the US and Canada in 2002, vs 33,800 in 2023, for an increase of 25%.
What were their production numbers in 2002 vs 2023?

Hate seeing this but labor being what it is I can't blame JD; like everyone else they have to compete.
With a profit of $10.166 Billion last year, I would say they are competing just fine.

I provided links to the two annual reports. I don't know if number of tractors and/or other pieces of machinery is there, though. Certainly dollar value of sales will be.

That JD plant in E. Moline, Il was (is?) where they make their big harvesters in the US. I remember touring the plant back in 2006. Next door was a huge derelict factory, where IH built some sort of farm equipment.

As for JD compact tractors, the last I have owned (several 4300s) were assembled at Horicon Works in WI, but had components from all over the world. Yanmar made the engine, Hema of Turkey made the hydraulics, Dana-Spicer made the front axle. Dunno who made the gearbox.

The Yanmar-JD partnership goes way back and lives on. I seem to recall that my old JD 955s had more Yanmar content.

The Unions sure showed John Deere who was boss.
Ding, ding, ding.

Know your value, and quit striking every 3-4 years. They can't afford to pay every line worker a tool makers salary, or every tool maker a department supervisors salary, etc.

It's hard for your traditional U.S companies to move down south, as I think the unions are able to prevent this. That's why your incoming foreign businesses build in right to work states. I don't know how Boeing managed to build in SC.

$10Billion profit last year. Just because you are a CEO doesn't mean you are entitled to Elon Musk pay.
