The end of the day yesterday...
I decided to make the left half of that intermediate beam a built up 8x8, so I could maintain the thickness of the beam and bolt it to the 8x12 using some kind of cleats...probably 2x8s.
The left end of that lifting beam also needs to be securely attached to the post, which I will do in a way I have not decided upon yet... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I did not get a chance to do much more than lay the 2x8s up there and clamp them together...
This picture starts to give the idea of how things are coming together. The ridge of the old shed will be extended. The beam that I add will come over to the right and be supported by that built up 8x12.
There will be two entrance ways, the one on the far side is 12 feet wide, and the close one is 14 feet wide [more or less]. I don't know what I will do there to keep the snow out in winter. Maybe some kind doors? Just tie a tarp across the openings?
The half of the old shed roof on this side will be removed. The half on the far side will stay. I will have to decide what to do about the shingles there, either just leave them or remove them and put new ones down. The roof line of the back half of the original little shed will be maintained.
I could have taken down the original shed, but I am kind of glad I did not think to do that because it will end up giving me a lockable storage place within the shed.
My high hopes of getting the rafters up today were dashed by ANOTHER day of rain!
