If you do use plexiglas for skylights remember where it is!

I forgot and drove roofing nails into one sheet. Still had no leaking over the years.

That is some silicone rubber calking I put on top of the plastic at the top to help hold the shingles to it.

Last shot of what was before ripping off that half of the old shed roof...

Demolition is always twice the work of building new! At least it is for me...

Turned into another LONG, busy day.

Don't even think I took another look at the pond the rest of the day...

Shingles off...now the wood is next.

Wish I would have had a flat shovel or the proper tool for their removal. Still, they came off pretty easy.

Demolition is done! Yippie!

Now to start putting up the rafters that will bring the new roof slope up to the existing ridge line...

The same shot from a different angle.

After this point I started to get worring about the amount of daylight left I guess, because I did not think to put on the photographers hat anymore...

Rain predicted for the night...HAD to get the roof over the old shed on and papered!

And I did, but was nailing the paper on in the dark, more by feel than sight. Literally. Finished around 9:30 PM...

It was a LONG day...[where is that instant face for "tired as He**?]

The picture I couldn't get at the finish last nigh.

The roof now is continuous up to the roof line of the old shed.

What old shed? I like it when a plan comes together...

Bill,
Why not put the plexiglass sheets under the shingles all around? Is there an advantage to only placing under the top layer?

I think the advantage would be that if you put the shingle on top, they would hump up rather than lay flat on the roof.

Also, you do want the plexiglas to to over the top of the shingles at the bottom end...so the transition from shingles on top on the sides, but under on the bottom might be difficult.

In a sense, doing it the way I did lets the plexiglas mimic the normal lay of a shingle...under what is above and over what is below.

Seems to work pretty good this way, but if you look close you are able to see the silicone rubber under the plexiglas.

But normall for a skylight, no one is ever close enough to tell.

By the way, boy does it feel good [until I move] to sit around and do nothing but watch the rain! These old bones [not THAT old ] arn't used to working two 12+ non-stop-hour days in a row.

Bill,

What the heck is that stuff you're drinkin' in your signature pic? If that's what's giving you all the ambition to work on this project, I want a case of each of it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wow!!! Great job, great pics. Now I know I have to keep my wife away from TBN. Posts like yours really show me up. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Thanks for all the pics. I like the skylight idea too. I'll be in need of a shed in a couple of years, I just might use that idea.
