Bill:

What do you plan on using for the sides where your drawing specifies "clear corregated..."?

I built a 20'x20' roof over a portion of my deck using a corregated material by Tuff Tex. I bought it at Lowe's. It comes in 26" wide sheets in 8', 10' and 12' lengths. It also comes in 3 different grades, the best is Polycarbonate - Very durable.

Although I used translucent white on my deck roof, I am building a wall on one side using the clear poly carb.

I highly recommend the stuff.

What the heck is that stuff you're drinkin' in your signature pic? If that's what's giving you all the ambition to work on this project, I want a case of each of it!

Rick...I'm not drinking it! Just holding the glasses! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The drinking came after the photo was taken. I forget exactly what beer that was...a micro brewery somewhere on the Island of Shikoku in Japan. Sure tasted good that day after walking about 18 miles with a pack on my back...

If you are ever in Pgh stop by...chances are I might have something similar on tap. And thanks for the compliments too!

Beware of that extra hammer though... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

2003pilot,

I think that is exactly what I am planning to use. I saw it at Home Depot. I remember it was in 26" widths and 8 or 12 feet long. I will check Lowes before I buy so I get the best stuff.

I only have about 42 inches open between the beam supporting the roof rafters and the wall, so this stuff should work real well there I think. I plan on using the clear stuff.

Made some progress today even with a lot of rain. Ended up removing the siding off one of the shed walls so I could add two 2x12 to give extra support to the roof, over the end of the old foundation where the block is knocked out...

Thanks for the pointer to Lowes...I might not have thought to check and compare there.

Polycarbonate

I purchased mine from the local nursery wholesale supply place at a fraction of the price that the big box retail stores sell it for. It is used to make greenhouses and they stock a million widths, lengths and thickness.

Keep the pics coming!

Yesterday I decided it would be wise to give extra support to the post holding up the roof on the end of the old foundation where I knocked the block out. I want to keep that opening as wide as possible anyway.

So I added a built-up beam made from two 2x12s...and also to do it right I removed the siding from that wall...which will make it easier to put the floor joists up for the little "loft" that will be above that side of the shed. The loft is a 12x12 area... This picture was taken the this morning, but it is as things appeared before I covered the wall with some plywood removed from the old roof...to keep the rain out.

It poured last night....but stayed dry inside...

The wall as I left it last evening. Glad I took the time to cover it with that old plywood. Sure kept the rain out...

This morning I removed that temporary plywood cover, and installed a 2x12 across the middle of the wall. This 2x12 will support the floor joists for the loft.

On the outside beam joist hangers will hold the floor joists. The other end of the floor joists will rest on top of this 2x12 running across the center of the old wall.

I am now wondering if I should keep the origninal roof line idea, or raise the roof over the loft to give more headroom...

As it sits now, the max headroom at the roof peak would be about 5', and the low ends just over 36 inches above the floor.

The old shed was out of plumb...so I had to thin down the 2x12s so they would slip between the 6x6 post and the old wall. I bolted them in place as well as nailed them.

I used a router to take off 1/4 or 3/8 inch from each 2x12 that went behind the post.

with all this rain we have been having the ground water is real high.

The two white pipes are drains I installed at the new shed. One perimeter under the pressure treated walls, and the other cutting across from where I thought the old spring ran into the foundation of the spring house.

The back pipes in the bottom carry the main spring...I had a backhoe dig that up about ten years ago...this catch basin feeds my pond. Right now there is a LOT of water flowing...

getting close to a moment of decision. I have to decide whether to keep the roof line a single plane, or if I should raise the roof over the loft floor.

After tormenting about this for a day, I have concluded that I should raise the roof and have a really usable area. As is, the max headroom would only be 5 feet at the peak [or little less]. I expect that I will raise the roof three feet or so over the loft floor...

In this picture I got the missing sheet of plywood on the roof and tar paper over the peak so that all rain should stay outside where it belongs...
