Last summer I used the tractor to dig out the bank on the high side and make a walking area that I could cut with the tractor.

Trouble was a spring appeared and I had two muddy spots that even my little yardman would sink into...

So I decided to dig a trench to catch the water...and feed it into the pond. I had been thinking about doing something like this anyway, to feed water from the pond over to the bank, hoping I might plant some ivy there and get the bank covered with something green that way...

The water in that trench is from the spring coming out of the hillside. Took several hours to fill that much...trench is only about a foot deep, more or less...

I put in slotted pipe and some crushed stone before covering it with dirt. I hope the stone was a good idea. The thougth is that roots could go down and find water in the loose stone...

I put a 4" pipe across into the pond. Now water will flow which ever way it needs to to keep the water level in the pipe along the bottom of the bank even with pond level...

Back at the shed, I wanted to be sure that water that might seep into the old spring house foundation would have a sure way out...

So one more trench was called for...

Happened to look down at the pond and got a picture of the reason why we don't have as many gold fish in there as we used to...

The B2910 was just perfect size for getting the bucket into the old spring house foundation, which I had to clean out. Was a real mess in there...old pump, mud filled catch basin, and so on...forgot to take a picture at the start...

I did not want to dig too close to the walls as there is no footer under them from what I can see...

Much nicer in there with a crushed stone floor.

I will have to wait until I get a torch to cut off that steel pipe...wish it would have been cast iron!
