You need to add one of those vents, I've done it to several of mine, just need to drill a 1/2" hole and pop it in, however finding the right nozzle for your brand of can is a little harder, I've tried several, some work some don't. And the threads on the nozzle end are not standard.

I just use all that junk as a complicated top. I take it all off and use the threaded base to hang on my fuel fill hole on my tractor. Pours real fast. I have a rear mount fuel tank so it might not work as well for one mounted under the hood but it works great on my NH. And my little Kubota.

I hate those new fuel cans as well. I wish they'd have left them alone. I too spill even more fuel than I did with the old ones.

I spilt some gas yesterday on the gas tank of my home made excavator when trying to fill it.

I use a battery powered gas pump from the Improvement catalog. About $20.
You stick it in the gas can, and hit the switch. It pumps through a tube.
Works great.

He didn't mention about whether he got the drillings out of the inside of the can. Must have been some went into the can. Still, I'd do it in his place. Luckily, I still have plenty of the old cans.

There is a flat spot on the backside slope of the handle where the vent would go if it came with a vent, that is where I placed mine. I also used a stepped drill bit which left a clean hole and no "drillings" in the fuel jug.

I used a step drill and what few shavings there were are easily shaken out.
