I live in a small town and often shop at a small country store for things such as coffee, newspaper, sandwiches, occasional pizza. I guess I visited the store 3 or 4 times a week for years. Then one day, there is a new employee, a young lady about 25 or so.
I went to the register with my coffee, said the usual pleasantries, and decided to buy lottery tickets. She has a 32 inch screen right in front of her with the lotto games and icons in a vertical list, Powerball, Megabucks, etc. I said I would like one each ticket per game for the four games shown there, with all of the kickers. She printed out the Powerball ticket, then turned to me and asked what else I wanted. I pointed to the screen and said just follow the list as it is and that will be fine. She immediately said 添ou have an attitude problem?
I was floored because I am always a please and thank you kind of guy, I have no problems with people, and I made my living on the road in a professional capacity. (I know anybody can say that but I am not a rude person).
I then said I want the tickets which she did print and I paid. Then I said you have no clue that you are in a customer oriented job, and you were way out of line coming after me with this attitude thing. A couple were eating breakfast nearby and agreed with what I told her. The owner came over to talk with her as I was walking out.
It has been a year and she is long gone but I have only been to the store twice in a year. I am not a delicate person, but I do not like being talked to that way.

I completely understand!
Your pride was wounded, and the owner should have immediately spoken with you as well.
There is a moral to the story though.

Don't buy lottery tickets!
Usually the DJ Industrial Average is a better bet.

How fast can a person go from Mr. nice guy :dance1::cool2::drink: to Mr. ticked off porkie-pine :fiery::talktothehand::punch:? Sometimes it doesn't take much at all when it is unprovoked. :drink:

Can't tell who, if either, is right or wrong from reading print on a computer screen. Without seeing expressions and hearing the tone of voice, demeanor of the situation at the time?

The same reason many comments on this forum are mistakenly taken the wrong way.

Oh well, at least for a dull Fall day, this thread should be good to roll on for a while.

Who knows.
She could have just had a bad customer, misunderstood you, husband left her, dog died, wrong job...who only knows.
One thing I know is it's psychologically healthy to get things like that out of your head. She's gone...forget it happened.
If you enjoyed the store I'd go back like you did. "One monkey don't stop no show"...Stick McGhee

Sometines when a persons buttons get pushed, they need to look at themselves, more than the other person. Other people are only ever a reflection of ourselves. I think Jung came up with that. Just sayin.

In general though, it's the "Nice" people that are often the biggest phonies. I have little interest in phoney people.

So your buttons got pushed by a short term employee with poor skills. Your reaction is to quit patronizing a business you have been supporting for years.
I’m not sure what you want from that, but I am not offering sympathy.

Edit: your thread title sure is interesting!

I am not looking for your sympathy.

I think when she asked me that, I would have told her, "Well, NOW I do. Where's your manager."

And had a frank discussion with both of them.

I have to remind myself when I get annoyed with a particular store, for whatever reason, that this isn't a public place. I am on someones elses property. I don't even have a right to complain. If I don't like, I really have two options. Put up with it, or leave. I mean, you have the right to convey your feelings to the owners or management, in hope that they may learn something and possibly make changes, but you really don't have the right to complain.
