Go to your local farm machinery consignment auctions. You can generally pickup some good equipment at whole sale prices. Things like box blades, etc are great to buy used. Not alot of moving parts there! Good luck!

Yep...and Craigslist isn't bad either.
You just need to know what you're looking for and what you're willing to spend.

A decent new tractor for 5-10 thousand bucks? Good luck!!

As far as implement prices...this is a fairly low volume (in the scheme of things) market. There's tooling costs to amortize. In a high volume market, those costs can be spread out over the volume and might be pennies per unit. Low volume...you do the math.
Also, steel prices have gone up...in an implement like a box blade, there's a lot of steel. And look at the life of such an implement...might be in decades rather then a few years.

So, the truth is...you need to know more about manufacturing, marketing and such.

Very true! Same thing with contractors. Have your own business for awhile and you won't begrudge that plumber his $50 an hour.

My dad paid about $1500 back in 1953 for a new Ford Jubilee tractor...in 2002 I purchased a new John Deere 4210 with MFWD, the two are roughly comparable in size. From what I have researched, a dollar in 1953 is equal to about $8.50 in today's dollars. So, allowing for inflation, that Jubilee would cost you close to $13,000 in today's dollars. My JD has a much more powerful diesel engine, E-hydro, full hydraulics, MFWD, power steering, diff lock, ROPS, vastly improved comfort and safety features...what did I pay for my base tractor...about $14.400 with mid PTO and hydraulics...

Let me tell you, many of today's tractors a a relative BARGAIN when you allow for inflation and the additional standard features...!!!!

I just shelled out over $3400 for a new FEL for my NH1720.

That was over 1/3 the price I paid for the tractor.

The joy and happiness that FEL is giving me is worth more than the cost.

My dad is 80 years old and has sitting in the shed 6 tractors.

He's not able to work the farm anymore but he still drives down to the farm and looks at his stuff weekly.

Lot of value in that.

Life is good.

EXCELLENT POINT !!! To me, owning and using my tractor give me more enjoyment than I get from driving my truck, which cost me over twice what my JD did. I drive less than a thousand miles a year, while putting 100 hours on my green machine. I hate to drive, but love every minute of seat time, be it mowing, snow removal, dirt moving, or just goofing around. I wax my tractor twice a year, the truck once. Yes, you cannot put a price on happiness.

WELL STATED !!

I think you need to do a lot more research before you start posting the "cold hard truth" you have discovered about buying tractors. For example, what are the decent new tractors that sell for 5-10 thousand dollars?

My L4400DT was close to 20k...

The truth is-tractors are inexpensive, attachments are expensive. You can buy a decent new tractor by itself for 5-10 thousand dollars. They will get you on the attachements :( Why does a mmm deck cost almost half that of the alone??? Why does a 48" box blade cost 600 plus dollars? Why does the cab for said tractor cost almost as much as the tractor itself?

My new lawnmower was close to $14,000. Maybe I should have purchased a new tractor at half the price. Which new tractors are selling for 5-10 thousand dollars? Must be some kind of tiny psuedo tractor.
