I know, I know we've all, well most of us, have discussed this. I have read and followed this thread and still don't get this dealer. I can't figure out why they would want to loose you as a long term customer. Especially if you were willing to finance the bill with them. Maybe I am missing some of the finer points but if it were I am I would surely let you finance it for a small APR. I keep you as a customer and cover the cost of lending you money until you pay me back. I hope something positive happens.

I wish there was more to this also but sadly after this happened and I was talking to my friends I have learned they do this to everyone. They treat you great, loan you tractors when yours is down and when they think they have done enough "favors" for one person they will nail them as hard as they can to make up for it. The guys with more money then me just absorb the hit and learn their lesson. I am not in the position to absorb this hit right now but hopefully when I get enough cash in hand I can get them to negotiate if not there are other avenues that I have been avoiding.

I was wondering if you had gotten this resolved yet. Sorry to hear that you haven't. Hope you manage to get it worked out.
Are you still making progress with your back?

Thanks, my back is doing much better. A lot better then I thought it would be. I can do a lot more and can walk a lot better also. I am walking roughly 2.5 miles a day with the goal to be a minimum of 3 miles a day. I get real sore if I do too much like pull Ava around on a sled any amount. I think it is the twisting of my back as I pull so hopefully with time and excercise that will go away.

Right now I have set a goal to be back to work by the end of April. Hopefully when warm weather gets here I can do more outside and start testing my back more.

Hello there Frank :), don't worry, I am not pushing my workouts too hard too fast. As I feel comfortable with a workout I expand it. I am not sure just how much I am going to be able to do this year but I am hoping to be ready to try haying by the end of May. I just need to make sure I have workers to unload the hay as I am not going to be able to do as much as I use to. I figure I will be either running equipment or shuttling wagons if I can make a go of it this year.

Well, I will see you in a few weeks anyway so you will know all of this first hand. Take care and stay warm

I just read this thread today, and I don't have any advice, but wanted to wish you continued improvement on your back injury's healing and a prosperous summer.

Unfortunately things like this happen to many of us. In many cases it's not the dealer's fault (except they probably shouldn't even give us quotes off the hip). On my 2120 we lost the PTO and assumed it was the internal overriding clutch. The dealer service manager who I've been doin gbusiness for 40 years told me that the last one he repaired was about $700 and he expected mine to come in about the same. It actually came in at $2300 and that was legit based on hours and parts required. To come in at $2300 he had to not charge me for some hours. I was not happy but in many cases you can't give a firm estimate until you tear it apart and know what you need to replace.

I agree Andy, but I asked for an estimate before I took the tractor in to them. He told me a number. I then told him to open it up and when he knew what was wrong to tell me the price. There was at least 3 or 4 different times at different stages of this deal where I asked him the cost and was told the same thing. We even stood there looking at my tractor spread about the shop and discussed my options in which both the service manager and I agreed to go one route. He then went a different route and never told me and that was an $8k difference.

As I said before, I do not doubt this is a legit price for the work done. The problem is the work done was not what was agreed upon and cost as much as the tractor is worth. I even tried to negotiate a fair price in the middle but the manager refuses to negotiate. I either pay the bill or lose the tractor:(

Robert, There are laws involved in repair estimates and repair costs. Talk to a lawyer. This sounds outside what we would call acceptable.
Oral agreements are legal agreements in the repair world, if they did not follow proper procedures, you have a case.
