Oh Oh
tractor split, valve cover off....

Engine trouble? or just setting the valve clearance while in there replacing a clutch.

Be nice to know what was being repaired, but any repair is a good repair when you dont end up with extra bolts or parts when done............

Leaking oil out the clutch housing, typical driveshaft seal failure. I've beat this tractor relentlessly for 500 hours, done the fluids and filters too often but never expected this.

Looking for more power as long as engine is out. Not sure how to get it. Maybe timing, bigger nozzles and a little more boost. This machine needs like 80 hp to do a proper job for me, not 60. It's the most gutless tractor I've had to endure.

I'd love to find the update bulletin for the seal repair so I don't go through this again after 500 more hours. I really want a better machine but I'm stuck with this one because of the add-ons. Snowplow, chains, 3 remotes, front remote. Too much to give away on a trade.

Going to baseline the engine today to make sure the innards are ok after such abuse I've given the thing.

500 hr in 6 years, must mean I'm over due @1,100 hr in 12 years for a drive shaft seal failure, at least your tractor dont stick in gear.

I had a bit over 1500 trouble free hours on my L5030 then traded it for a L5740HSTC and had a failure in under 200 hours, so it was fixed under warranty. The shop foreman said they had never experienced that, so he used mine to demonstrate the repair; said the new seal was better, so I guess I eill find out in time.

Only posting this in the event it helps in any way. See attachment in the following link. https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/184150-l5030hst-lleaking-oil-weep-hole-post2208761.html#post2208761

Curious to learn what the baseline numbers are.

Thank-you for the pdf.

So my FWD shaft is bent and when I spin it the runout is about 1/16" which is quite a bit. I want to say maybe I bent it splitting the tractor but I have to say I was so careful it came straight apart very smoothly I just don't see how I could have bent the thing.

Motor has 2 cylinders with 8% leakdown and 2 with 40% leakdown so my plan changes. Pulled the head and the pan to find pistons are junk with the top ring land worn badly.

This is what happens when you over fuel and boost an engine not designed for it. The wastegate is set at 6.5 pounds (factory).

I noticed about 2 years ago the engine isn't silky smooth like it was when new, it kind of has a touch of a misfire. I was right. Glad I took it all the way down while it was apart for the seal fix.

Looks like I'll replace 4 pistons, rings and remove the turbo then sell it in the Spring because the power will be so bad. Rod bearings look like new.

So will you finally buy a tractor that has enough horsepower for your needs?

Wow really did wear the ring lands badly,
wonder if Kubota uses steel ring land inserts for the Turbo spec pistons?
