I admit it I was that guy this weekend. I am always very adamant about trailer safety. I see more stuff pulled around here with no tie down chains, junk looking trailers etc. I have access to several trailers to haul the tractor on from a 24' goose neck that I have to use my buddies truck with,an almost new20' Deck over with 4' dovetail tag along(my favorite), a 18' tandem axle trailer, or MY 20' triple axle piece of junk trailer that needs lots of work. Well Sunday morning I decide to go mow a few acres about 5 miles from the house. I pulled up at my buddies place where the tractor lives, and all the trailers except mine were either gone or loaded down with something. So I cussed a little and pulled the old girl out from the weeds. spent 10 minutes freeing up the worn out latch and the clevis's on the safety chains. then it was 10 minutes to air up all 7 tires. next were the ramps, the bolts were sticking and the chains had to be smacked with a hammer to get them loose, another 5 min in the 95 degree heat. I Finlay get the tractor up and centered between the tires, tractor is 6' wide trailer might be 6'4" between the tires 6'2" of bed. not alot of room for errors. any how I'm loaded and hook up all my chains and binders. Oh did I mention the trailer has 2 brake axles but no wire harness or lights at all? so Im legally chained to an illegal trailer.so I start to turn the trailer around and roll the 3RD tire on the drivers side

right off the rim. Im hot tired and already sweating so I say it will be fine Im only going 5 miles. well it pulled fine until I pulled onto the dirt trail leading to the property. I hit a stump with the 1rst tire on the passenger side.( I am not the first to hit said stump, but its the first time Ive ever hit it) dented the rim and flattened the tire which immediately wobbled in the sugar like sand and rolled off the rim. So now I have a 3 axle trailer with tires on 4 out of 6 rims. 2 mids and 1 each front and rear. I get unloaded in the shade, cut grass for several relaxing hours then go to work on the trailer, spare that I mentioned earlier was flat, valve stem rotten. so I pulled the rim off the front so it wouldn't drag and pulled it home. I need 1 more trailer.

What a story:eek:

I think I would have drove the tractor 5 miles to the site instead of using that trailer.

Jeepers! It could have been worse, if you were Dougster you'd have been be arrested for something!

We went up north this weekend to cut trails and food plots in the steamy 81F weather. Whew! I was glad when it cooled down to 48F at night.

Been there done that.
I was 1/4 mile from my cabin on the dirt road hit a hole blew tire on a single axel with 300 galon tank of water in it. I looked at rim it looked like a D not O tire was trashed spare flat too and said what the heck rim is trash tire is trash drove the rest of the way in to cabin very slowly. My wife came out and said it sounded like a locomotive clanking along and she couldent figure what was making the noise. I got out of truck ops tire missing now. My son said he would take 4 wheeler out and retreive tire while I fixed spare and put it on.
The next week got 2 new tires and 1 new rim ready to roll!

Great story.

I was just thinking how I get into situations like that myself. I'm trying to accomplish one task, but everything I need to get it done isn't working out for me. I spend all day messing around with a broken tool, or engine or tire that the one hour project turns into an all day nightmare.

Glad to hear it all worked out for you.
