Hmmm......

At the time of my post, I wasn't thinking of any "official" police action as the property damage was minimal, rather a police "authority" figure to, as a favor to Bob, explain to the kid/parents that what happened was wrong, Mr. Skurka wasn't happy, and that it better not happen again kind of thing.

I see your point, I just thought it could force the irresponsible parents to do the right thing. If that child is as bad as it sounds, the police will be seeing him more in the future. It's extremely unfortunate to have neighbors like that. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Time to set up video surveillance around the property. (I'm serious). It is relatively inexpensive anymore and it does give you some piece of mind. And when you are on vacation you can check what's going on around the property. (via internet) I know it shouldn't be your responsibility in incure costs. Let the punk deny it when he is on video. My in-laws have had many problems around their house with vandals. (cars, house, windows, burning grass, stollen gas grills, etc). I set it up for them and the next time it happened the police were very interested in the video. I hope it does not get this bad for you in the future.

I just had a meeting with one of my on staff officers in a totally unofficial capacity.

Basically there are several things that COULD be done by me and or by the police. However, he summed it up with a final comment that idiot kids raised by idiot parents are something that must be LIVED with 24/7 and his squad car is only going to show up for about 5 minutes a week. Dealing with retaliation is often worse over the long run than ignoring the problem.

His recommendation is that after responsible child #1 tells his story then I should call idiot parents and explain to them that I know what the real story is.

Bob,

I would be inclined to stop by the parent's home and speak with them.

It seems they understand that their kid was there along with the other one.

I would explain that even if they feel their kid was innocent in the act, that in the event he ever comes on your property again without invitation, for whatever reason, you will see them in court. And that you will be happy to spend the money to see justice done...

The whole time I would be smiling and nice to them and might even advise that I knew how hard it is to be the parent of a "follower" rather than a boy who can think for himself...

I think I would also talk to the other boy, and give him some positive feedback...explaining how when young we do crazy things sometime, but we learn from them, and so on...and that your are sure he learned from this mistake and that he will not cause you any more trouble in the future...

I would make a police report, and let the "retaliation" chips fall where they may. Bring it on.

I agree with Doc (all too easy for me to say, because I don't have to live next to the problem - but Bob opened it up for discussion).

I say deal with this 'minor' problem now, as it may be the daughter who is violated next time, or in the future. That would be far worse to accept, than the damage to the play house things.

Police have too many 'cop-outs' and all the right excuses for not doing more. My apologies to the police as this is a big generalization. We give in to the small things, and are so surprised when they become bigger monsters. Kids need training when they are growing up, hopefully not incarceration when they do the big things wrong later in life. Again, big generalizations. But hope my point comes through. Nothing is easy.

When you catch the little punk doing something, call the law and let them take him home to momma. I would not hesitate. Another thing, if you want revenge, find out how dad goes to work, which direction etc, then have an accident iwth a pound of 10 penny nails..............


Kid number 2 reminds me of a punk we have in the extended family, he is like a second something. This past school year he got kicked out for carrying a knife in school. He was sent to the bad kids school, were he also messed up. Seems he thinks girls are for beating on and just being mean too. Anyway, he told his daddy to get off his lazy #$%% and take him fishing, the bum of a dad did it. Kids can be worse than the stupid parents. I know this kid will wind up in jail before he is 18, and will probably spend most of his life behind bars. The funny thing is, when Grandpa is around, he dont dare act up, Grandpa knows how to use the belt, and he aint afraid too
