Now this, I totally agree with. They keep making new ones for my fantasy football forum, and some of them are just hysterical!

OK I did not read the hole thing so this might have been asked already
Child 2 hunts...I assume with a gun? In Fl if a child has a gun the parents can go to jail for it....Even a air rifle the parent has to be with them... So next time he was out for a hunt I would make a phone call

I disagree with this statement by the police officer as a reason for not getting a police report on this incident. If you don't get the Justice System involved from the beginning then never bring it up because there will be no official record of it. Period. Later on it will be this record (along with the seriousness of the next crime) that will hold him in juvenile detention or release him to his parents.

Well, for the kid who fessed up, make him work off the damage. Find some fun task he can help you with, and then stuff him to bursting with ice cream. The carrot and the stick combined.

For the other kid, I suggest bounding antipersonnel mines.

Reminds me of when I lived in a slum north of Boston. My next door neighbors were a gang of car thieves and general nutcases. Not that anyone has ever successfully accused me of sanity. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Anyway, we were sitting on the hoods of our cars in the parking lot, drinking beer and shooting the bull. The topic of crime came up. It turns out that criminals are even more worried about crime than the rest of us. All their friends are criminals, so they get ripped off a lot.

My answer was that I had the old Enfield and both I and my wife shot first and asked questions later. The nice part was that I didn't heve to threaten anyone, so no one could take it personal.

The following week, they set another neighbor's car on fire. I guess he ticked them off.

This is Indiana we are talking about. We actually vote out politicians who mess with our guns. And we are talking about BB guns with this kid, so that, in the eyes of our local police, makes the hunting offence a non-issue.

Somehow, someway, kid #2 will pay. And I will be making sure the whole incident is detailed in the neighborhood newsletter. So kid #2's parents will be reading about their future honor roll student and the fine example he is setting.

Well you know me now, and I keep about 15 or 20 in the house at any given time. I love my guns. I never bought one for protection, I used to competitively shoot and just enjoy them, in much the same way I enjoy working with a tractor. My wife and I used to go through about 500 rounds of shot shells every Saturday, and I would also run about that many 45ACP rounds through pistols each week. Plus I used to hunt birds. Don't have much time for any of it anymore, but every once in a while I go out and make a bunch of holes in a target just to make sure I know what end of the gun to aim downrange.

Shooting is a great sport. And it is a great way to do something with your spouse that you can both enjoy. And it is a great way to teach a youngster about respect, safety, sportmanship and responsibility.

It is mine and I would think many if not most other Australians perception that Americans in general keep guns not just for hunting but self preservation. It may be a wrong perception never the less it is.

I think I should clarify this comment.
My comments were aimed at reporting to the cops, that so many posts refer to. It may be our convict heritage but in general most Aust don't dob (report) on one another unless it has a major, major, impact on someone it just isn't in our ethos in general. This may sound a little contradictory but I hate the way Aust is heading trying to change this with campaigns on TV called DOB IN , sponsored by our law enforcement.
I guess what we are brought up with is what molds one nation to think differently to another
