yep,

there is always one other thing. teach the girl one of the martial arts and when she is ready (should be soon, the kid is a wimp) have her go over and woop the snot out of the punk. If the law wont bother them for thier kids actions, why would they bother you?

plus she gets something she can use for the good, and he gets real embarrased by some "girl" beating his butt.

carpet tacks are much better.... they keep on working long after the initial contact... I was a kid once... albeit in a different century...

Re: Idiot neighbors & their ne\'redo\'ell children!

First my sympathy, life is too short for conflict, darn.

I would go with an official police report for one important reason. It this is evidence of a flawed character the sooner the record is started the better off everyone is. I was once criticized for turning in an eight year old for acting "nasty" with some of the little girls in the neighborhood. He was just being a "boy".

I figured if he was being a "boy" then he'd grow out of it and the record would die on it's own. However, if it was to be a pattern of misbehavior then the pattern would be visible to the authorities.

Go for the police report.

My next step would be a letter to ALL the members of the association explaining as accurately as possible what happened, who was involved, action taken, and estimated damage done and it's value. I would be as accurate and nonjudgemental as possible.

Just the facts mam, alert the neighbors.

I would avoid all childish and ignorant actions of retribution.

First, good people aren't good at it. You dump tacks and chances are an ambulance rushing to save your best bud gets there first.

Feuds while fun aren't profitable.

The letter will accomplish two important things in my mind. They will alert the neighbors to the potential bad behavior of these two boys together. They will be watched a lot more closely. And just as importantly the message will get out to the kids and parents that the number one deterrant to misbehavior, shame, is out and about.

Again, it's too bad things like this happen. It's almost like some behaviors are genetic. You see a screaming child running out of control at the grocery store. And nine times out of eight you'll see a parent out of control too. Good kids seem to have good parents.

I don't recommend a feud. The hill you die on might not be the one you chose. Take advantage of the law and understand knowledge is power, for you, and your neighbors.

Re: Idiot neighbors & their ne\'redo\'ell children!

Bob,

I have thought about this a bit and what I might do if faced with this dilemma.

First, I was a kid once as well, and while I never vandalized or stole anything I did run around in the neighborhood and as any kid may do get into a bit of mischief. While I may have been the leader one time and the follower the next we always came clean when asked about any deed. If we did not get caught we did not volunteer information. I think this is the way with most kids who are "good kids".

I wonder how much pressure you can exert on the one that is not fessing up with the kid who is. A gentle word in his ear about how much you respect him for coming forward and taking his punishment like "a man" and how not facing the music is cowardly and not the mark of "a man".

If the proper points are dropped the one boy may put enough pressure on the other to help set the course right. If this is done correctly it is possible that there may be no retribution.

I have a child in this area that was going down the wrong path and was being ignored by brothers, mom and dad. I have been working with him in my wood shop and teaching him to use hand tools. It takes some of my time but this boy is acting and showing signs of becoming a proud and correct boy with little input. His parents are "amazed" at his actions and ideas of right and wrong. I this case it was a call for help.

I am not saying that this is the case with the boy in your area, but kids need the benefit of the doubt sometimes when and if they come clean. If they don't well that is another story.

Sorry this rambles but there were times that me and my friends might have been a little "out of control" as a kid. The neighbors and one cop took me behind the corner and clipped my ears. I learned from that, with no "record" as such.

Having said all of that it was before I was 10 and I did not see the age of the boy in question in your post.

Re: Idiot neighbors & their ne\'redo\'ell children!

Ditto what W.H. said about the police report. Let yours be the first sheet of what will be a long paper trail. You also said that your home owner's association has a news letter. I would use it. No names or specifics or else they may get an itch to sue you for slander, just put in there that some children from the neighborhood have trespassed and damaged personal property. Explain to the family that handled it the right way that this isn't directed towards their child. They did the right thing and should not have to continue to pay for the mistake. This article will let the bum parents know that word is out about their punk child's acts and the entire neighborhood is watching him.

Admittadly this makes more sense than my answer, but mine still "looks" like more fun.............and you can always get out the rolling magnet and get the nails up........at least the ones NOT in tires /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You are correct in all aspect though harv, sense over spite is best.

I remember a neighbor that we had, he hated cats, shot one of mine /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif, after calling the cops, it is illegal to fire a weapon in our town, and after the cop and I collecting the corpse, he came out all mad and stuff. When he found out he was about 2 seconds from being arrested, he went back in and shut up.

Filed charges which were dropped, but not before he paid a lawyer dud, 500.00.............that was one expensive shot. They moved a month later.

Granted I wanted his dog to releive himself on my property ONE Time, that would have been the last time. you can shoot a bow and arrow, and I am good with mine

Bob

I wouldn't waste my energy on the issue, like higgy said praise the kid that fessed up.
Unless you have any more trouble get on with your own life and let the others look after themselves they really are not your responsibility and sooner or latter if they continue down this ill directed road the cops will eventually deal with them.

My views may be culturally different, but thats my two bobs worth
