Re: If you\'re causcasian you\'re in big trouble

If the country is being taken over by Latinos, at least it's being done in a peaceful democratic way. That can't be said for our white forefathers who just came in and slauthered the Native Americans. How noble and American like was that? They must have felt much like the way you are feeling. Forced to take up a new language, punished for using thier own!!!

Voice--

I've assumed that everyone who has contributed to this extended thread fully understands, but chooses to disregard for present purposes, that whites came to these shores and both physically and culturally--and, certainly, linguistically-- massacred those who lived here for many centuries before. It goes without saying, but certainly does not hurt to say, that for the vast majority of human time, there were no whites on this continent at all, and that the seizure of this land by whites was a demonstration of ethnic cleansing and downright slaughter of which Slobby Milosovic could only dream. That was pretty much, then, of course, and this is pretty much now. But to respond to the rest of your post, you are too kind: Any among us who think our supposed plight remotely resembles that of Sitting Bull has, IMHO, seriously lost touch. Thanks for joining in.

Re: If you\'re causcasian you\'re in big trouble

Rick I see this conversation being one of many happening all around the world. People feeling threatened by the way their world is changing and so they complain and seek the two oldest remedies known to man for insecurity.

Besides that.

They go for nationalism and religion. We see it happening in India, Pakistan, Africa, and we saw it in Russia the way it is in China.

Us Americans are first and foremost humans. So we do what humans do.

It's just funny that we think we do it different from other humans.

Re: If you\'re causcasian you\'re in big trouble

I have visited Plano on several occassions and know of a BP station on East Plano Parkway where the unemployed (typically Mexicans) hang out looking for day jobs.

Those were the good old days! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Now we have Casa Azul (blue house). That's the place to pick up day laborers, typically hispanic but not exclusively so.

A couple of years ago I'd picked up a good worker for a day's work there at the blue house. So I told him I'd pick him again in a couple of weeks when I thought I might need him again.

Well he was in the little johnny when I drove through. But he came out just in time to see me driving off so he ran after the truck. Big time mistake on his part. Plano PD patrols that area looking for folks not going through the proper procedures for picking up laborers. They nailed him for soliciting work.

It turned out he went out on a job near mine and saw me. So he came over and showed me his ticket. I had to write a letter to the judge and confirm his story and work with an advocate for the laborers to do so. The fine? Two hundred and fifty dollars! /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif But we got him off as was right.

One time I picked up a young man who was from Mexico and pretty naive. I habla a little espanol so he told me a story.

A couple of weeks before he'd been at the blue house waiting on work. A large contractor to a cable tv company came in and got a pick up load of workers. The young man felt really lucky to get such work. A lot of the guys doing regular construction stiff the workers for pay after treating them bad to begin with.

The kid got to work all week. Then came Friday the gringo supervisor brought out the paperwork for them to fill out for their pay. The gringo wouldn't let them work it out together. He insisted that each man fill it out by himself. The kid couldn't. So they fired him and two more without paying them either just because they couldn't fill out the paperwork.

The story bothered me a bit. So I called the contracting firm and talked to the manager about it. He let me know right up front it was none of my business and if the stupid mexicans couldn't fill out the paperwork they didn't deserve to be paid, shouldn't be here in the first place.

After I calmed down a bit I didn't do anything about it. I know I was sorry. Sorry like in sorry acting as a person if you know what I mean.

I explained to the young man that he should feel real lucky. That manager and his supervisors were not as lucky as the rest of us. It must have been real hard on them growing up with two or three different dads every night.

Hispanic gang members have some tattoos that mean things to them and the rest of us it just don't mean squat. I can't remember the exact sequence but supposedly tattoed tears under one eye means you've killed. The other eye means you would kill. Anyway if you are in the presence of a young hispanic male and he has a tattoo of tears under his eye do your belt up another notch if you can.

I was helping out a bud and he'd asked me to stop by the blue house to pick up a couple of laborers for the job. The way it works is you drive up a vehicle at a time. There is someone there with a clipboard with the names of those who've registered as they showed up. If you just want laborers you tell the person and the generally the next two on the list comes out and gets in your vehicle. That is unless you ask for a specific individual or you want a skilled tradesman.

The next two was a couple of young guys. I told the lady with the clipboard my name and what town we were going to be working in. I asked they guys their names and if they spoke english. They nodded they didn't.

I figured three hands were as much fun as two at that game. I didn't act like I habla'd any espanol either.

But when my bud called to see where I was and if I'd got the help I told him that I had. I then went on to explain that one of them was gay cause he had tear tattoos under both eyes. I'd heard that meant he was gay in mexcan.

Out of the corner of my eye I caught one grimace and one grin. We got along fine. We all knew which way the wind was blowing and to be polite when passing gas.

Probably the most common scam at the blue house is chicanos acting like illegals cause they know the gringos think the mexicanos work harder.

Harv--So that would be _three_ remedies, right? Agree or disagree, your posts have been really insightful and from my monitor, anyway, much appreciated--although we've certainly pulled you away from implement manufacture for longer than we should've. These are certainly threatening times in a bunch of different ways, and having a community like this one is a mighty interesting way to get a big batch of different perspectives and learn a few things too. Cowboydoc probably had no idea what he was starting!

Right!/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

That's the cure for everything!

Rick it's just my nature to be the devil's advocate. I figure the rest of world is standing on this long old highway. And there I am sitting on a rock in the sun on the hill seeing things from a completely different perspective.

I guaroantee you if cowboy doc and the guys were rabid liberal freaks I'd be on them like a bad coat of paint driving them up a wall. But they ain't so I isn't.

Harv,

I too have enjoyed your posts. So much so that I'd like to ask for your autograph. Preferably in cast iron. And could you put some of those nice hooks on it for hanging pots and pans? /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif.

Re: If you\'re causcasian you\'re in big trouble

Well W-Harv,
we're all here for light heartedness and this topic in addition to some others recently are not. You cloud the topic with reminiscing and then remark that you keep us in line. You are a skilled craftsman. We all have opinions and somehow you think you have a corner on the market. Don't quit your day job for social work.

Back in Idaho, Oregon, etc. they built low income migrant housing. Brand new 2 - 4 br apts. and houses. They spent millions doing these projects. In two years time the people had literally destroyed the places. They looked like a bomb had hit the places. Some people don't even deserve a break.

Re: If you\'re causcasian you\'re in big trouble

Cowboydoc,

You're right. Some people don't deserve a break. Most do. Even the ones who don't deserve a break should get the chance to show their natures....I guess maybe I could say let them prove they don't deserve a second break? One of those "book by it's cover" things. I've gotten a few breaks in life. I've heard there are some truely self-made-men. Never met one.
