IH 254
Hey guys,
Need some advice/opinions on a IH 254.
I changed the front axle gear lubricant last summer.
85-140 per operators manual.

I used tractor all summer, fall and winter. No issues.
The other day I noticed some leakage coming from the top of the axle.
Is this some kind of vent or something?
Any idea why lubricant would be weeping out of this?

Thanks!

Yes, that's a vent. Make sure you didn't have water get in somehow, that would cause the level to raise and start pouring through the vent when the axle is tilted or something.

Mine also leaks through the vent when working on hills and the vent is on the low side, but I do run it overfilled for that exact purpose.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Tractor is always kept out of the weather.
However, as soon as it stops raining, I will check lubricant in axle.
