just a wild thought... wonder if that is the right sized radiator for it.. ie: the channels.. could have been switched at some point in life.

He replaced the radiator.

yes yes..but was it match to tractor or the one that was on it?
The more info we have...the better we are at solving

Pull the head and use fluoresent dye or other none destructive testing.

You get overflow after a hot shut down as the steam getting out the cap lowers the pressure.

Keep the faith. You'll solve the problem.

Of course it was. Read the thread. The radiator was replaced because of the overheating in an attempt to correct it.
.... There is enuf confusion and misdirected address of the problem in the thread already.

Many others have commented on the overheating problem. I just want to say I and others on here are praying for you and your wife. May God grant you peace, heal your wife, and reveal the problem with your tractor. Whine if you need to; it isn't the same as complaining; we all need to do it sometime.

WHEW !! What a bunch of information ! Thanks, Guys. If I'm reading this right, popular opinion seems to point toward head gasket. It seems like I'm trying to run in waist deep water trying to keep up out here alone, but I'm going to try to get caught up enough to pull the head on this JD. If I fix it I'll be sure to let you all now right away.

Closed Center not closed circuit. There is no bypass. There is a stroke control valve that varies displacement of the pump.

Closed Center not closed circuit.

Yeah, my bad. Knew the right term, but didn't catch myself on edit. :duh: !! Didn't know how the CC system handles flow demand, so thanks for clarifying. Suppose we can rule out the control valve as a source of extra load, then? Gave away most of my JD lit when I traded in the 1520, thot it'd be my last Deere. I lasted a whole year & then got another with OC hyds (stanadyne pump).

btw, one reason I had the notion of cool-down is from remembering cars/vans with electric fans still running after shutdown with late 'boilover', if happening, handled by recovery tanks & disguising what would have been overflow without them. :confused3:

Dude. As a welder ..I have repaired many a radiator in my day. Because of this I can say. That I have seen radiators that look original
but are knock offs. ie: smaller channels etc. There is no wrong in asking a question. I am, nor are you standing there looking at this tractor. Therefore. Stop trying to make me a look a fool. When I customer comes to me wishing something built I ask every possible question there is. Therefore I apply that to any matter I attempt to help with on here. I will NOT assume that it was replaced with a brand new factory original or a 2nd hand repaired. Most Farmers will attempt to repair with as lil cost as possible. Thus I will ask the question. Do not judge a person attempting to help another.
